SATA Port Not Working On Motherboard
So, I went to plug in a second drive, and it doesn’t seems to work or recognise it.

It definitely seems to be the issue since I swapped over the data cables and both drives only work with one SATA port, I tried different data cables too and it works.

Is there a workaround for this?
There’s no other SATA ports.

You can add SATA ports via PCI controller card.

Have you tried updating your BIOS to the latest firmware?

Yup I have.

What PCI slot does it use?

Edit: I ordered a ATI Radeon X1650 Pro and it’s in
PCI-E x16.

Will the PSU blow?

250W, Dell Optiplex GX280 Small Mini Tower.

There are PCI and PCIe versions. They got 2 or 4 internal SATA ports.

1 will do just fine. All I’m worried about is that the data cable won’t reach the drive, it’s 18 inches.

ATI Radeon X1650 Pro needs a 350 watt power supply. Your PSU won't blow if you install the card. It will just decrease the performance you get from the card.

Thanks! I’m sure it will be bottlenecked by the CPU anyway. Pentium 4 530.

Hahaha! This is not my main PC, it’s just a fun project! XD

Wouldn’t it be easier to buy a 3.5 To USB rather than buying a Sata card?

It would be easier but sata is a lot faster than usb.

I’m pretty sure USB is much faster than a 13+ year old HDD.

I’m not adding a SSD in this or anything.

What motherboard do you have and what drives are you trying to plug in (make and model)?

Both drives work fine, and it’s a Dell Optiplex GX280 Small Mini Tower.

It’s definitely the Sata port.

Edit: Thanks for editing my comments! It was kinda a mess. :P
