VIVE over rift but I would wait for the wireless VIVE releasing next month...

VIVE is a higher premium product, over the Rift.
FeilDOW 2018 年 3 月 23 日 上午 1:40
We don't know when the wireless from Vive will release and when it does you will have to buy it separately anyhow, I'm playing wireless now with TPcast. . They just started selling the PRO but it's $800 for only the HMD and nothing else so it's even an upgrade for existing Vive users so far, an expensive one at that.

I have not tried the rift but I would recommend the Vive, it's been a great experience.

If you can afford it HTC Vive. Just understand the PRO version is headset only (Coming out in April), quite expensive, but the original one has dropped in price due to it.

Ensure your PC/Room will support it:

- You want ideally a Nvidia GTX 1070 or 1080
- You want a good play area size too for the basestations to be mounted between

As someone who has both, I mainly use the Rift due to comfort. Even then, I don't particularly like VR that much, now that the novelty of it has worn off for me.

Everyone will try to scream which one is best, but in the end, it is mostly subjective.

That said, VR is still just a novelty anyways. Most games are indie titles, vr chats, work sims, etc, with little substance to them, yet they carry a hefty price tag. VR is starting to get there, with a few AAA devs getting into it, but mainly re-doing already released titles in VR.

VR is getting better, but it is clear that the software has fell behind development progression of the hardware.

Can I ask...

Do you stand/move around or just sit?

What VR games do you like playing?

Is your PC able to keep a solid 90 FPS, lag-free?

Do you experience VR sickness?

---

I would say most VR games are too short currently, but there are a few gems.

Such as:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/380670/Final_Approach/

That game will make you feel like a kid again playing with micromachines/hotwheels planes.

Also, I hate that it's like console when it comes to some being exclusives for Rift only or visa versa.

Once they get into full length VR Movies, it will be well worth it... you can seriously rewatch severnal times and get a new watch each time just by looking around.

well im going to go against the vote so far. from my experience as I have
owned both I have chosen the oculus, this is for 3 resons. price, controllers and ease of use.

bear in mind this is my experience and while trying to resolve issues I had a load of people telling me i have a lesser graphics card and mine works and lots of people say i have the same issue with same or higher/better equipment so this is not garenteed outcome for everyone.

ok so the oculus is cheaper with NO signes of being out done by the vive infact quite the opposite I purchased the vive, set it up and installed my games i done a hole load or reaserch on compatability and how to get round things like project cars, dirt rally and some other games not being optomised on the vive (at the time) and figuring out how to use revive to make them work. after eventually getting it to work i fell into alot of issues with tracking and ended up having to use older drivers, close programs and tasks, use really low settings in game like no shadows low resolutions etc and it became very hit and miss getting smooth refresh rates and a good experience with the vive ( ill just add i have a gtx1080 gfx and a i7770k cpu so i should have no issues on meduim settings) the oculus on the other hand. plug it in set it up turn setting up in games like resolutions and supersampeling as for some reason it just seemed to work and work really well without any tracking issues and nice smooth movement.

the controllers are down to preference they both work just as good as each other hower in my opinion the controllers for the oculus are better as they are smaller with no awquard weight just just feel well balanced in your hand conpared to the top heavy vive controllers that to me seem harder to grip and use. also as the controller for the vive extend out from your hand rather than fit inside and wrap round they are more likely to hit things as your arms move around for instance my room is fairly low with the vive controller i have hit the roof and ceiling light a couple of times however the oculus controler i cant reach my roof making throwing stuff over your head easyer when in vr.

the ease of use comes down to how much tweaking i have done, with the vive like i said previously i had to do all sorts of tweaking to get it to work with certain games and seemed more demanding on my machine as more the issues were resolved by turning settings down to get better fps. the oculus has been flawless to date and ive managed to turn settings up in games and add supersampeling to increse the resolution making everything including text nice and crisp

the only drawback if you can cal it that of the oculus over the vive is the very minimal difference in the field of view the oculus is just slightly smaller but trust me if you get an oculus and you are not used to the vives field of view this will not be an issue it is plenty wide enough

Ill add in a list of games I play with the oculus and vive as everyones experience will be based on what games they play as not all games had issues on the vive only cetrain games and te be fair to vive 360 tracking on some games worked very well without issue but they are not demanding games the the oculus seemed to excell at

stunt kite vr - occulus only . no issues
Project cars - vive had lots of issue some never got resolved - oculus is flawless in this games
dirt rally - vive requires revive installer and seems to work ok - oculus works flawless
Elite dangerouse - vive worked ok at best but text was hard to read - oculus again flawless
dcs worlds - vive after some time eventuly looked half deacent - oculus flawless
war thunder - lots of strobing on stright lines on vive - things are not perfect in oculus but i havent tweked it to try improve this game on oculus but vive was again ok at best.

all other games i have tried have been demos and had no issues with but thoes are the main ones i used and the ones that caused the biggest issues on vive so if driving and flight sims are your reason for getting VR i would recomend oculus.

i mentioned the vive has better tracking on some games due to the position of the lighthouses versus 2 sensor either side of the desk. well there is ways of adjusting the 2 uculus sensors to give 360 tracking equal to the vive. but curently the oculus is £400 and a third sensor is around £50 it still works out cheaper infact you could even buy a new face mask for the oculus from vr covers (not advertising them it just seems to be the only ones available) they have a selection of foam thickness and material. personally i would recomend getting the vr cover too for around £40 and if your in UK dont worry about improt taxes and there wasnt any for me even though they are based in i think china. having this means you can swap the cover when one gets sweaty wich it will and makes it better for longer use or shairing the headset with others, its not nice using a soggy headset been there and sorry no thank you. vive also does vr covers but there headset has a velcrow foam that is replaceable without upgrade so the cost of additional covers is alot cheaper but still more expensive overall.

I move around in room scale.

Onward, H3VR, Paranormal Activity, stuff like that. If it shoots, I probably like it.

I have no problem maintaining a solid 90 FPS, with no deviation, solid frame times, and that is with some super sampling too.

I did, when I first tried VR. Now, I don't really get motion sickness unless the game has a serious disconnect between camera and physical movement. There are exceptions to this, as games like Onward do movement very well and I get no sickness, unless I fall off a ledge or something similar.

my friend has a vive and i have tried it. it seems decent and he tells me its better than oculus because there is more games available. is this true? if so, how many more games are available and which ones are good

you can try them. to find out what games are available you can download viveport and oculus store by going to theirs website and installing there stores it doesnt cost anything unless you purchase a game. or i think most if not all games are on their websites.

https://www.oculus.com/experiences/rift/

https://www.viveport.com/

before that you could look in the steam store on the right you can narrow down the options to vr supported, and im sure you can select either headset and see what games are available for each. it boils down to opinion of games if you prefer racing games like project cars 2, dirt rally then they are are on oculus store but not viveport but yes there are other games on viveport that are not on oculus so its best to check them both out. i bought a vive and ended up with an oculus because it was better for the games i play. you could posibly have a different opinion.

I think the best way to approach VR is look at all available games choose the ones that you like then compare thoes games on each headset see the reviews of the games you like as both headsets pritty much give the same experience but some games work better or easyer on one and not the other. why the oculus is better for me is the games i play work better. but research the games and dont forget steam has a load of free games and cheap games available on both headsets

Vive has stated they will not have anymore exclusives and you can play any Oculus exclusives with a Vive by using re-vive.

To hell with exclusives with emerging tech, they will kill it before it starts.

Any games that are on Vive or Rift can be played on either platform. To play Rift games on the Vive, you can use a free application called ReVive. And all games on the Vive work on the Rift, thanks to Steam VR plaform and OpenVR.

But as far as amount of Vive games go, most of the games on Steam are indie games that are well overpriced for what they are. Junk, for the most part. You can have a look right now. You'll be shocked at how many bow and arrow games there are... lol
