GTX980 is not running on 240hz.
So I have a 980 STRIX and an AW2518H which supports 240hz. Currently I am using a DP cable
to connect my GPU to my monitor. But the strange thing is that the highest possible refresh I am able to use without my display shutting off is 144hz. What's the deal? And I don't know if it helps but the monitor shipped with a HDMI ( which is not as advertised ) so I went back to the shop and got a DP in exchange. That's the cable I'm having issue with right now. It didn't even turn on the first time when I plugged in the DP cable until I reversed it and it magically supported 144hz. Thinking that the DP cable was faulty, I went to the shop again and got another DP cable. News flash it didn't work again, everytime I change to anything higher than 60hz, the monitor just keeps flashes on and off until it eventually reverted to 60hz again. What gives? Any help???? Also I'm not clear whether they are 1.2 cables.

Displayport 1.2 (<---and up from that) supports 1080p 240Hz. Just depends on if your GPU has Displayport 1.2+
Yep it does support 1.2 I checked the specs on NVIDIA. I'm not sure which DP cable I'm using though.

You must have 1.2 and up from that. Then it starts working. Add me if doesnt.
Really? Thanks for offering dude. Let me try a 1.2 cable first, because so far I'm not sure whether I'm using a 1.2 cable.

There is no 1.2 cable, it is the port.
Check the user manual, check the monitor settings to make sure to turn on anything you need from the monitor dash on the monitor itself.

I'm out of ideas then, cause last I checked the 980 has a 1.2 port and so does the monitor.
Try changing your dp cable to a hdmi cable

@1080p HDMI 2.0 and up support 240Hz.

@1440p only HDMI 2.1 supports 240Hz.

I correct myself: HDMI that does support 240Hz is almost never found on any products.

Yup. You don't see that many monitors that have anything higher then 1.4b, you are expected to use DP (Which you should) for the high-end stuff
