Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.
Kinda odd trying to get the steam community to help me but whatever. I've been having this problem for about 3-4 hours now and I still don't really know how to fix this problem. I don't really want to go to a Third-Party website to download a new codec (because of searching on youtube for help). I belive that it was because of AMD's CCC but I can't open it up for some reason. I tried downloading VLC but when I opened an mp4 file all I got was a black screen with the video running in the background. If someone can help it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Then you require a Codec Pack.
As VLC would surely do the trick alone.
Please try installing K-Lite Codec Pack 14.0.0
Then once completed, try opening the MP4 in VLC player once again.
WMP is dead, especially on Win10.

If AMD CCC is not working; download and use the DDU App to wipe out GPU Drivers completely. Then reboot as needed and download/install latest AMD GPU Driver from AMD.com > Drivers > Manual Search > select your GPU & OS

Alright thank you for your help. I'm was just so confused on why it MP4 just stopped working so randomly.

So I installed K-Lite Codec Pack and it still shows a blank screen with audio running in the background.

Then u need to address the GPU Driver issue.
Due to, if there is GPU issue or Driver issue to certain extent, what you are seeing can be a fair result of that occurring.

restart pc and then try launching some video media.
if 'no video but with audio' is still present, try changing some settings in mediaplayer classic (part of k-lite codec pack)

mediaplayer classic>>options>>output

my (default) settings:
directshow video: enhanced video renderer (custom presenter)
real media video: video mixing renderer 9 (renderer)

if you forgot default settings, you can just reinstall k-lite codec pack and then select 'restore to default settings' when prompted by the installer.
Yes try avoiding "Software Renderer" try actually setting the Render Output to something like DirectPlay / DirectShow for example.
Alright I'll try to get back with you guys if it works.
Sadly nothing has worked but I thank you guys for atleast trying to help.
You could try going into windows features and uninstalling media player, reboot, then go back in and reinstall it.
MP4 mean many different thing. Please specific. Apple? Audio only? Audio/Video? Also where you got MP4 from?

Jamebond I mean like audio/video. It's how you would watch a video, like a movie.

Carlsberg I'm not really sure I would want to do that to be honest.

What do you mean??
the source of the video... it can be an improperly made video or there is no video at all...

I've been using this editing software for around 2 years and I've sent my mp4 file to my drive (yes Google drive) and the video works.

That is what I'm tried to ask but I still have no idea where you got MP4 from. iTunes? Adobe? downloaded? etc.
