Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

Kinda odd trying to get the steam community to help me but whatever. I've been having this problem for about 3-4 hours now and I still don't really know how to fix this problem. I don't really want to go to a Third-Party website to download a new codec (because of searching on youtube for help). I belive that it was because of AMD's CCC but I can't open it up for some reason. I tried downloading VLC but when I opened an mp4 file all I got was a black screen with the video running in the background. If someone can help it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

That is what I'm tried to ask but I still have no idea where you got MP4 from. iTunes? Adobe? downloaded? etc.

It's already pre-installed into your computer (Mainly Windows I believe).

mediaplayer classic (part of klite codec pack) and vlc can play videos encoded in x264 and x265 hevc...

i think there was something wrong with OP's mediaplayer settings and/or the video is bad....

Are you sure? This is not an pre-2000 codec, this is an 2003 when it started.
