"Faking/emulating" a controller "signature"
Hi,

I am currently playing a game with a lot of button prompts, and the problem is that while I use a Playstation 2 controller, the game (WWE 2K18) seems to only recognize three types of controllers: PS4, Xbox One and generic.

Therefore mine is considered generic, and the symbols displayed for prompted buttons are extremely counter-intuitive.

So is there a way to trick either a program or even my OS (windows 10) that a device I am using is actually another? May be by changing this device signature or at least emulating it. Because the game would much more enjoyable if I managed to make it think that my controller is a PS4 one.

I am ready to explore any suggestion, even registry or drivers editing. I have already tried to find the textures that the game uses, but with no luck, so this option, which was my first idea, is currently a dead-end.

Not that I'm aware of.

I've used a DS3 and DS4 controller for years using SCP toolkit and DS4Windows to have them work and the ABXY prompts in gamescan be confusing at first. After time you get used to knowing which ABXY prompt means which Circle, Square, Triangle and X button. The ony really confusing prompt is X as both formats use it but again with practice it will be second nature to press the correct button.

Just keep playing with the controller and youll get used to it or buy new controller, ideay with ABXY button configuration as even with PC and Steams support for DS4 not all games will give playstation style prompts.

The problem is that, in my case, prompts are 1, 2, 3, .., till 12. Then stick are called X and Y.
As I said counter-intuitive.
And even in 1440p, it's sometimes hard to know if it is a 3, a 5 or an 8.
I'd be content with ABXY prompts, but the generic ones are quite hard to learn.

X360CE?? I use my SPCH-1200(PS1/PSX Dualshock) just fine in games with the generic option. X360CE can fake your controller into an XBOX 360 one, just you have to map it.

Maybe use the PS4 option

I think it should be possible to use steams gamepad configurator to simulate a xbox or ps4 pad. did a quick search and this looks like a solid guide:
https://www.howtogeek.com/234427/how-to-remap-buttons-on-your-steam-controller/

this guide is somewhat older and you can also access gamepad configurations on settings in the regular client nowadays.

if its a non-steam game you can try to configure a 360 for "desktop" and it will work as long as steam is running.
