DVD drive on Dell Optiplex 755 making worrying noises.
So, yesterday I came in possesion of an old dell optiplex 755. I decide it would be used for older games but when I put in the disc for windows, when the DVD drive spun up i heard a buzzing like sound but when i ejected the disc there was no visible damage. I am really worried here.

It could be the disc and not the drive. Since they spin at extremely high speeds, any imperfection (e.g., hairline crack, disc not being perfectly flat, labels on disc) can cause the drive/disc to emit noises. Try other discs to test.

If it IS the drive, there's no need to lose sleep over it. Continue using it until it dies altogether, then buy a new one if you still need it. Optical drives are extremely cheap nowadays.

seems that the dell seems to be shoddily put together. The DVD drive, when working hard makes the case rattle.

Sounds like a vibration problem. Open the case and tighten the screws a little where the drive is mounted. If that doesn't solve it go here: https://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l2/g7/c113/list/p1/Sound_Dampening-HDD_Silencers.html
local goodwill you can scavenge a cheapo dvd drive

If the "buzzing" sounded like a gradual windup...that's pretty much normal. You can actually get a decent SATA DVD drive for like $30USD.

A classic DVD burner costs like 10-12 bucks. Just use until dies and get a new one.
