If it IS the drive, there's no need to lose sleep over it. Continue using it until it dies altogether, then buy a new one if you still need it. Optical drives are extremely cheap nowadays.
seems that the dell seems to be shoddily put together. The DVD drive, when working hard makes the case rattle.
