2400mhz ram only running at 1600mhz?
I just got some new ram today (Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x8gb DDR3 2400mhz) and I looked in task manager under performance and it says it's only 1600mhz. All if it is there, just not at the advertised speed. How do I make it run at 2400mhz?

go into Bios and activate XMP. All RAM is 1333MHz and some run faster if the CPU supports higher frequency. If you want to go beyond that you need to OC the RAM manually or by pretested XMP.

Ok I did this and my BIOS says it's running at 2400 but task manager still says otherwise (1600)... Is task manager just incorrect?

Probably only reading a single multiplier. Though double isn't 2400 so I'm clueless and just giving a bump I guess

Post your full specs.

Install and check with cpuz, task manager has a habit of getting things wrong.

Well there are two values. NB frequency which fluctuates erratically from like 700 to 4000 and DRAM Frequency wich stays at 1200

You didn't post your full specs. What motherboard do you have? Are you sure it supports DDR3 2400? Try resetting BIOS and applying XMP again.

Yes Z97 chipsets ( i.e my i7 4790k) supports DDR3 and my MOBO supports well into the 3000s as far as speed. I think monk has pointed me in the right direction though. CPU-Z says DRAM Frequency is at 1200mhz and DDR (Double Data Rate) would mean I'm at 2400 so I guess I'm all good now.

Aye, I missed that post. Yep, it's running properly and the northbridge frequency fluctuates like that according to the CPU clock.

Yeah if cpuz is saying it's running at 1200 that doubles up properly to the xmp of 2400, so looks like you are all good.

Exactly..
This computer im using has 8gb DDR3 1333mhz, "running" at 665.1mhz

Mine from home is 1600mhz, running at 800.

Edit: this made me remember the old RAMBUS (RDRAM) memory pretty expensive and fast, if i recall correctly, those runs at 100mhz, but is Quadruple data rate, so its 400mhz effective, this is from pentum 4(478 not 775) era, but is just fast as an DDR2-800.

That does bring back some memories. My first custom build was a Pentium 4 Northwood, the first mainstream CPU w/ hyperthreading, with quad-channel RDRAM.

1200 in cpuz is correct. It is in duel channel no?
Look in task manager click on memory. I bet it says 2400

Mine is like this ^^^^^
