Would ReactOS be a good alternitive to Windows 10 and Linux for gaming?

It is important to note that ReactOS is based on NT technology, it is designed to replace Windows and still run the software that Windows runs. If you go on youtube you can see it run some games.

What are your thoughts?

ReactOS is still in alpha meaning it's a buggy, incomplete mess. Lots of Windows programs will not even run (usable) on it.

It's currently only up for download so people can play around with the OS and participate in it's development. You are not supposed to run ReactOS as your main OS in it's current state.

Running Linux and using a wrapper like Wine or running Windows 10 in a VM like Virtualbox would be a much better option. Wine and Virtualbox will actually work, ReactOS, in it's current state will not.

Do also note that many companies provide drivers for windows APIs but not as often linux APIs, as a result steam will always need a variant of itself for windows APIs, if ReactOS gets to a stable state then steam could then fork it to provide an OS specifically setup for steam that still operate the same way as windows for everything else which will provide a speedup for steam based games

Other than Windows none meet my needs as of right now. I don't give a crap abt spyware. Do you even bother reading thier crappy T & C ever ? THey are drafted by a TEAM of Lawyers for other Lawyers.

They haven't even met their target to be a good alternative to Windows Server 2003 yet. Even if they reach 1.0, they'll only be an alternative to Windows Server 2003. After that, it will be what FreeDOS is right now, but for NT5.2 and maybe people will use it for servers and the community behind it might be a cross between the Linux and OS/2 Community, there would be homebrew twitter clients and maybe new community made RGB drivers for a Keyboard and whatnot.


But after 1.0, I don't know what they're doing, is ReactOS going to be an OS on it's own kinda like how GNU branched off Unix or will they add NT 6.X features on top of it.

Probably you don't know Deepin OS... Is basically the most user-friendly Linux there is (and it's beautiful too)...

I really hope ReactOS become the #1 Windows alternative for the people who wants performance and be spy-free, it seems that's what they're trying to achieve with the project and if they suceed, will be nice for gamers as well...

I would recommend qemu instead of virtualbox. But i agree with your post

deepin OS....i just like the desktop environment (but still dont use it....was a pure buggy unstable hell last time i used it..)....rest is...yea user friendly but not the best..
anyway there is solus for gaming and its rly user friendly too....but ofc its not the best too because its so user friendly...
you can get arch linux easy too...just as manjaro with any desktop environment
etc.
because gta san andreas....its running rly nice on linux too....same for gta iv...(yea ofc with wine/proton) no reason for running this games inside a vm.

So I run Ubuntu as my main machine. I got sick of Windows 10 when it said I could choose between targeted adverts or non-targeted adverts. Well, it's my PERSONAL computer and my PERSONAL screen real-estate is not up for sale unless I'm getting paid. Simple as that.

Ubuntu is an awesome OS. I've lent my friend a laptop running Kubuntu. She's a young single mother and is completely non-technical, and she can use it absolutely fine. So I don't know what the rest of you are b♥tching about.

Nvidia support for Ubuntu is good - actually, really good. You need to add the graphics-drivers ppa and the rest is dealt with by Ubuntu. I don't know what AMD support is like. Valve have developed SteamPlay (aka Proton) which runs stacks of titles under wine, and actually it does really well. I've been playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider and it's brilliant, aside from a couple of really quite minor graphical quirks that don't damage the gameplay. 2016's DOOM is also good, and even GTA V runs well.

If you're a developer, you can use JetBrains Rider which is brilliant. Microsoft's Visual Studio Code also comes native for Linux.

In short, it's ♥♥♥♥ing brilliant.

windows 10 is the way to go, when windows 11 releases i will use that
