flashing your vid card bios is not a safe thing to do .. and yep some times the flash will kill the GPU ..you do so at your own risk
i have an old AMD card here a X 800 XL .. bought 2 X 800 GTO cards cheap ..
identical sapphire cards .... the x 800 GTO cards only have 12 pipes unlocked
one i was able to flash to an X 800 XL and unlock all 16 pipes .. the other card Bricked when i did the same bios flash .. only way to get it to work again was reflash it back with the original Bios .. that yep i backed up ..most people do not back up their bios files
and it did not matter as the card died shortly later ...
i guess he can check tech power up they used to host alot of vid card bios files
looks like they still do

RMA the gpu if under warranty and just explain to them that it up and died because is not longer being detected anymore. Shouldn't have a problem getting away with doing that.
You can easily have dos via something like Hirens Boot CD ISO
Hirens BOOTCD just happens to be the name of what I'm referring to. It's downloaded in ISO form, so u can use cd, dvd, usb flash drive, SD card via usb adapter... your choice. As long as you can boot to it, should be fine.
