Only 2 RAM Slots being used
Hi

I've killed my old mobo and I bought an identical one, ASUS P6z68 Deluxe. Everything fine until I checked the RAM in BIOS. I have 4 x 2gb RAMs but in BOS only says I have 4gbs of RAM, even though the BIOS sees all of them( I can scroll through them and see their specs n the bios menu). Also, in CPUZ I can see all of them, but it says I'm only using 2 of 4 sloits. I have an Intel i7 2600, ASUS P68Z8 Deluxe, the RAM I'm using was on the old mobo too, that was identical, running on Windows 10 x64. Things I've tried so far:

1.Changing slots
2.Booting 2 slots at one, both pairs work.
3.Resetting BIOS
4.Making sure there's no RAM limit in windows settings
5.Using 4 completeley different RAMs, same outcome
6.Setting the XMP profile in BIOS
7.Setting the operating frequency from Auto to 1600, but when I do this the PC doesn''t boot

I've had another problem, the RAM couldn't be read, but I fixed it by repositioning the processor

Thank you

I'm pretty sure they're using 64bit Windows.
This doesn't matter if memory remapping is off in bios, Windows won't be able to use all the available ram.

Memory remapping needs to be enabled in bios if option is available, along with a 64bit OS
Would memory remapping not be enabled on default after a reset of BIOS?

If it is an older board, then no it would be off. Like on a board made for 3rd/4th Gen Intel or AMD FM2/AM3. These are usually also platforms where the sata mode might be defaulted to IDE or Compatible instead of AHCI Native

So make sure memory remapping and ahci modes are enabled in order to properly use all ram and native drive speeds in Win7 64bit or later.

For this board it is not enabled by default if i remember correctly, as i previously mentioned

But with that specific board, its the only reason for the full amount to not be at the OS level but is detected everywhere else.
swap ram, test , use each one as 1 slot test etc. might not be seated good etc.
Yes test each ram individually in slot 1 (refer to manual if needed) to ensure all ram are actually ok and don't have a single issue. Once that is done, test each slot. However check the manual as some boards might not boot if using only 1x ram in other slots by itself. If this happens to be the case for your board, then leave 1x ram in slot 1, then test the other 3 slots by trying these combos individually....

Ram is slots 1 and 2
Run mem test, checks out ok, power off.
Ram is slots 1 and 3, retest...
Ram in slots 1 and 4, retest...

This will ensure that after testing all ram and they check out ok that you then are able to rule out a bad dimm slot.

3 years, either the problem is fixed or the board is in a landfill somewhere
