i heard its supposed to be a binned 8700k

Probably pointless, they actually did the test on liquid nitrogen cooling, both 8700K and 8086K got same result in the end.
It's not really better overclocker, just has little higher turbo frequency.
I would put that $70 towards good CPU cooler instead.

An 8700K is slightly cheaper, but has the same mechanicals and the same performance potential. Buy that.

Both CPUs will comfortably reach 5.0 GHz with Air Cooling.

essentially it boils down to whether or not you think it's worth it to pay $70 for a binned 8700k.

if you do think it's worth it, get the 8086k. if not, get the 8700k.

I wouldn't bother seeking a binned chip. Even if you're serious about overclocking, an average or below-average 8700K is more than powerful enough. And a good one will overwhelm an NH-D15 long before it runs out of voltage.

That's actually been my problem with the 8700K. I got lucky, I have a really good one. And I'm sitting here with it maxed-out on temperature, but with a huge margin on voltages.

D15 won't get overwhelmed by twice as much. Fix Intels crappy TIM, problem solved.

Back to topic:
depends on where you come from. 8086k is at least very pricy here, around 30-40% more, for just 300 mhz more on stock? Nah, not worth it.

At $70 probably not unless you want it for the collectable /nerd bonus, here in the UK it's only £20 more which makes it a no brainer for a binned and collectable chip, but for that same reason, I probably wouldn't delid it, where I would delid a stock 8700k in a heartbeat.

That doesn't make any sense; it's much better CPU.
A binned 8700K would be something that would get locked and turned into a 8700 non-K or maybe even an 8600 with Cores and/or HT disabled.
Monk 2018 年 6 月 11 日 上午 12:14
sorry motha i dont think you understand the meaning of 'binned' here, it refers to selectively choosing a better performing chip via testing rather than playing the silicon lottery, in the same way my 7900x was 'binned' to make sure it could hit at-least 4.8GHz (ive had it at 5.1!!!), in the same way, the new 8086k is guaranteed to turbo to 5GHz, how well it will overclock on all cores, is probably just as random mind you, but at-least you know it'll do it on one, so likely all.

He? I see around 80 pound difference for those two.
<300 for 8700k or ~380 for 8086k.

8086k for 320 or so would be a no brainer imho.

Here is a few Countries all in one go.
source = PCPartPicker and ensuring they are In-Stock at these prices

US
8700K = $350
8086K = $425

CA
8700K = $470
8086K = $570

UK
8700K = £309
8086K = £380

DE/FR
8700K = €339
8086K = €450-470

AU
8700K = $499
8086K = $629

NZ
8700K = $550
8086K = $700-750

Keep in mind there are only 50,000 of the 8086K
8086 of them are reserved already for Intel Giveaways.
They will sell out quick.

not sure where you are seeing an 8700k at sub £300.

Or on Amazon.co.uk for 309.

That's why i was a bit confused.

big sidenote, even cheaper:
for now the UK is still in the EU & Schengen, so you could just order anywhere inside this realm, and get it for <280 pounds.

So that's 280 vs 380 pounds, nah, not worth it.

Only if you want it as a collectible or maybe a resell item considering the limited quantity.

This is a vast improvement in the naming scheme over the last time they did this. *points to the Core i7-6800K*
