I3 8100 + gtx 1060 6gb or i5 8500 + gtx 1060 3gb

As the title says, which one should I get if I’m building a pc. I noticed that the 8th gen i3 has 4 cores clocked at 3.6ghz, so would it be sufficient with the 1060 6gb?

i3 8100 with 6gb 1060 gets my vote, as that was what my build was going to be, before i found my i5 6600k

or if you can wait a little longer do the i5 8500 and 6gb 1060,

just dont get a 3gb 1060 thats all.

I've heard that many times and noone can explain this opinion. At most, they give pathetic reason about 3GB which isn't enough in '18.

look it up on youtube like everyone else does, lots of games use more vram then you would think, before I got my 6gb 1060 I was using a 2gb 1050, and it was pegging the VRAM usage, and chewing through my system ram, using about 13gb (of 16) to run PUBG
idealy you dont want to run out of VRAM and let it chew into your system ram, the VRAM is MUCH faster then the system ram, 4000+mhz vs 2133-3100 (or so)

already have, I just wanted extra input because of the performance difference on the i5 8500 to i3 8100 and the 1060 3gb to 1060 6gb which seems to cancel each other out either way.

You need a CPU that won't bottleneck your GPU. The FX 4300 will at most run a 1050 ti. Besides AM3+ is terrible and obsolete. The i3 8100 and GTX 1060 6gb would be a better combo. NEVER get the 1060 3GB. You could also save up a little more and get an i5 8400/8500 and a GTX 1060 6GB. Only get the i5 8500 if it's not much more expensive than the 8400.

Sirry, but this is gibberish. Do you really believe noname's videos? This is only your problem. Claim about VRAM seems makes no sense at all.

It seems for the vast majority of games the 3GB model is less than 10% slower, which should produce highly playable performance for folks targeting 1080p in today's latest titles.

yes. provided the vram requirements of the game's settings don't exceed the vram you have on your card. then you can run into stuttering and lower fps.

The i3 8100 is all low as you should go

The difference between i5-8400 and i5-8500 is so tiny that it doesnt really matter much.

This is common misconception. We discussed this several times already. VRAM usage is something like total OS RAM usage. More you have, more you use. Driver decides that unused VRAM is wasted VRAM. Thus, the only way to check actual game requirements is to run it on this graphics.
