it doesnt have to hit 4k yet but i would like to play ultra or high with almost no frame dips

with a 7400 and gtx 1060, you should be able to play most games at 1080p 60fps.

Since you already have i5 7400 and GTX 1060.
The next upgrade is i5 8600K / i7 8700K and GTX 1070 Ti.
No shortcut i'm afraid. You should have bought 7700K + GTX 1070 / Ti in the first place at beginning. But i'm sure someone here probably suggested you GTX 1060 + 7400 is *more than enough* for 1080p gaming and blah blah. Without any future prediction.

Now i'm seeing lots of thread is coming, people are having poor performance in NEW games and need to upgrade again, not even 1 year has passed.

Here is another thread, same CPU and GPU. http://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/11/1698294337771738626/?tscn=1521957698

OP bought a prebuild. And not everybody can afford an i7 K-Series, plenty of guys have student debt, car payments, or just a crappy job. The people who can comfortably shell out for what's a $550 CPU in my country are a minority.

GTX 1060 has only enough power to run NEW games at *high* settings 60 FPS with medium anti aliasing. if you set everything to Ultra, you will get FPS to mid 40s.
That is NOT enough for lots of people.

Just because it's not enough, doesn't mean they can afford a GTX1080. With prices as they are, few people can. Or would even want to.

Gaming is fundamentally a hobby. Most people have enough to worry about already, when given the choice between playing at 40 FPS and spending $1000 on a GPU they'll take 40 FPS and bite your hand off.

i can show you 10+ benchmarks if you want, real time Youtube benchmarks and also written Benchmarks from Guru 3d, or Tom's hardware.
Just say the word. i will do the hard work

sure, go ahead.

Why are you doing this, you know you will lose.
GTX 1060 can't do 60 FPS on ULTRA, everybody knows that.

lose what? i'm interested in seeing the benchmarks.

A GTX 1060 3GB is meant for high settings FXAA to not exceed 3GB VRAM.
Frame drops would come if the VRAM usage would exceed the limit.
But for high settings FXAA OP PC is good enough for 60+ fps in all games.
Only PUBG maybe is a little too demanding but dropping Shadows and Mirrors quality to low should let him to play 60+ fps.

Okay, as you wish. coming in next 20 minutes.

And that's 20 minutes on my clock.

I remember having exactly this conversation with Cloud Boy about two years ago. I'd bought a GTX1080 and he laughed at me for pairing it with a 144Hz monitor, saying a 1080 couldn't possibly play "new games" at 1440P and Ultra. He even angrily accused me of lying, and threatened to find benchmarks to prove me wrong. He didn't provide any then, so I'm a skeptical whether any will be forthcoming now.

OP has a GTX 1060 3GB, there's no reason anyway to post ultra settings max AA benchmarks, that's not the goal for that GPU anyway.

Especially when OP has made it quite clear that they're unable to afford a better GPU anyway.

1060 isn't a 1080p ultra at 60fps card especially since the OP has the 3gb version, but in reality there will be games you can and games you can't so everybody is right!

How dare you inject civility and common sense into this thread :steamhappy:

At the end of the day, a 1060 6GB card is a bit behind a 980 when it comes to performance, that's ac4 year old card now, it is unrealistic to expect it to max out games, the 3GB version is around the level of a 970, now, both of these cards are perfectly good and still very capable, you just need to understand and think realistically about the settings and performance you will get.

Hell, my htpc is still running an old zotac 670 amp edition card, it can actually run every modern game in point it at still when I bother to test them, I just need to be realistic with the settings.

If you want high frame rates and maxed settings, you are not going to get it cheap, I honestly don't understand how anyone cannot understand that.
If you could max things out on low to mid range cards no one would buy the high end.
Monk 2 ABR 2018 a las 2:27
I wasn't really replying to you cloud if you read my post, I was more pointing g out some basic facts, hell, if anything I am agreeing with you.
Lots of issues with performance come from people miss understanding the limits of their hardware.
ugafan 2 ABR 2018 a las 2:28
this video gives a good overview of what his card is capable of at 1080p.
