Does Msi GTX 1080 Gaming x works well with a Freesync monitor?
Hello!

I'm planning on replacing my Gtx 750ti to the msi gtx 1080 gaming x and I was wondering if you know if it works well with a freesync monitor? I've been told you need a gsync monitor but in the gpu's description it doesn't mention that the card has gsync so I'm wondering if a gsync monitor is necessary?

Thank you in advance!

No, Freesync is AMD technology. You need a G-Sync monitor with an NVidia GPU.

However, I doubt you'll need it, the GTX 1080 is still a beast of a GPU.

Thank you for your fast reply! Okay so I can go with a freesync monitor then without any problem?
you can use it like a normal monitor. you just won't be able to enable freesync.

No not with Nvidia GPUs.

I see, will it have a big impact in gaming performance?

Nope. You won't notice any effect at all, meaning there's absolutely no point buying a freesync monitor. it's a waste of money, either buy a GSync monitor that works with your GPU or buy a regular monitor and use Nvidia Adaptive Sync, which is a software trick your GPU can do.

Freesync / g-sync will prevent screen tearing and that can be very helpful in some games and even more if you use a higher hz monitor and highly recommended for those.

However as stated you need to use the correct gpu and using the wrong one with the opposite gpu will be a waste of money really.

Right I read about that just a while ago. Seems so thank you for your reply!
No, it belong to AMD. There was talk about adaptive sync working with geforce but still have not heard back from them.

That's a pity :(
Freesync monitors will work perfectly well with Nvida GPUs you just can't utilise the Freesync feature of it. I've got 2 freesync monitors that I've had for years. Both are currently connected to an MSI GTX1070 and both were previously connected to a GTX 970.

Yes G-sync will help you keep game settings high and help keep gameplay smoother when you fps drops but it isn't the be all and end all. If you haven't had it you can't miss it. If you can't afford it don't worry. For those games that you get fps drops in just lower a few settings till it runs stable. Thats what us PC gamers have done for 20+ years before G-Sync or freesync.

All Nvidia GPUs can perform Adaptive Sync and Fast Sync on any monitor. It's not as good as Gsync, but it does work nicely.

Just Right-Click on your Desktop and open Nvidia Control. Find and tick the Adaptive Sync option, and you're good to go. Works on any monitor.

First before replacing graphics card make sure your power supply is up for the task since GTX 750 Ti is very low power useage compared to more powerful cards.
550W PSU for GTX 1080.
