Graphics Artifacts
So i've got some problems with artifacts in some games. For example Wargame: Airland Battle and Battletech, though in the first i solved it by turning anti-aliasing off but in Battletech i'm unable to fix it my self without the help of someone with more knowledge of me in terms of hardware and according software (though this might be very easy^^).
The strange thing is that other, i'd say more demanding, games like Doom, Rainbow Six Siege or Wither 3 are running perfectly without anny issues.

The artifacts im getting are tiny black squares flashing all over the screen in a diagonal pattern right from the start of the game.

- My GPU is a RX 470 8GB from Sapphire
- My CPU is an absolute old FX 4100 (until i get an FX 8350 in 1 or 2 weeks)
- Ram 8GB
- Mainboard Gigabyte 970a u3dp
- I'm running Windows 10 64Bit
- PSU is 730W (which i think is enough and not the problem)
- My Monitor is also relatively old, but don't know the model (wanted to get a new as well
especially if that could be a cause for this problem)

Tomorrow the last thing i can try on my own is updating all my drivers but if that dosent work i have to hope that someone might be able to help me.

Edit Udating drivers didn't change anything

It would be very kind of you if someone might be able to help me. Thanks in advance for trying.

i guess two things may be the error: the cable may not fit correctly between monitor and gfx board. second...the gfx RAM is about to die. you are right to try updating drivers etc. last thing you can try is checking your rx 470 in a differnet pc. also you could, if possible, check your games with another gfx board from a friend or so in your pc. more i cant say...

Download and run EVGA OC Scanner; this will run a bench-marking loop and scan for any visual artifacts caused by faulty GPU.

EVGA requires login for downloads; just get the app from Guru3D or MajorGeeks

Does this support amd gpu's? Because the official website says it just supports the gtx sereis from nvidea.

if it's just one game, it could be an issue with the drivers. download the most recent drivers and see what happens.

if that doesn't work, go into amd wattman and lower the frequency by 10%. test again. if artifacts go away, gradually raise frequency until they come back.

It's in a very small amount of games like 5 or 7 where i have these but mostly i can find a workaround (like turning off anti aliasing).
I have tried messing with the wattman settings like you said before but no change, neither on minimal or maximal value that i'm allowed to change

If for some reason that does not work; use MSI Kombuster

Most artifacting is due to issues with Vram, , if you haven't overclocked, it's one of the few signs that your GPU is on the way out, if it's still under warranty RMA it as it's faulty.

If you have overclocked, pull the Vram clocks back a bit and it should fix it.

It seems my card has a problem with MSAA Anti-Aliasing. Every benchmark with it on shows the mentioned artifacts but with Anti-Aliasing off it dosen't show any artifcts or other image distortions.

Now i wondered what AA Doom uses (never had any issues with that, even on max settings) and i noticed it runs TSSAA. There isn't even an option for MSAA.

Now if someone could explain to me how MSAA works compared to other AA methods would be nice so i can try and understand where the problem is coming from.

But back to the main point. I don't mind turning Anti-Aliasing off in a game but will this problem extend to other areas as well or will it just be for MSAA. Nice to know would also be how frequent MSAA will be used in future games compared to other AA methods (will it someday be the only one present?).

And thanks for all the replies ^^. Happy to see people helping out.

As I said, your memory is bad, RMA it or put up with it, msaa is more demanding, so will tax the memory more, with the memory faulty, that's the only option.

^ This; either the OC is too high, or the VRAM is toasted.

Either RMA the GPU under warranty, or replace it in-full.
You can't fix this type of problem yourself otherwise.

Reset the GPU to full defaults, load up MSI Kombuster, select the VRAM tester in that list and select the test which is for the full size of VRAM your GPU has; then select your native Screen Res + Full Screen and click "Stress Test"

If any artifacts or odd colored lines appears in this test, your VRAM is toast.

ok thanks for the answers i'll see if i get around a new card, because it i haven't oc'd the card myself and left it on factory settings, thus sadly my vram looks to be toast.

Try MSI Kombustor.

Set FXAA or CMAA for your GPU and CPU due to low VRAM usage and low computing power needed.

Doom will run flawlessly on your PC due to negligible CPU requirements even with highest graphics settings.

Don't waste money on FX 8350 unless you really can't afford a decent upgrade (i3 8100/RYZEN 1200 + 8GB RAM DDR4 + m ATX MB) .

But a Ryzen 1200 = 8350 in Games, lol

If you want a better budget PC that will go much further, build around Ryzen 2400G and use that Vega GPU. Then later down the road when GPU pricing settles down, get something decent for Gaming GPU and switch your Display to that GPU and wipe out the AMD GPU Drivers.

RYZEN 1200 is slightly better but the fact is with a RYZEN system you could upgrade later to a decent CPU.
If you buy a FX8350 the system would be dead anyway in a few months forcing you later to build a new system from scratch.

RX 470 performs more than double framerates than i GPU G2400.

Building from zero regardless OP yes a 2400G is a great CPU+ i GPU combo for its price definitely.

what do you mean with dead? it's not like the cpu will stop working after 2 months. i dont want to spend a ♥♥♥♥ ton of money. with that im spending 80€ and im fine with what i get for the next 2-4 years for what i want to play. and then unless i really want to i can still set settings on lowest. i don't call what i have a really powerfull rig and it's fine with me that i don't have or will not have one (probably i'm at the bottom end of that spectrum but whatever). if i want one i would spend about 3000-4000€ to get one but that is in my opinion too much for money for a little nicer visuals.

anyway thanks for the suggestions ^^

i consider my initial question answerd do any of you know how to close this thread?
