I had some issues once with a LGA775 system. It didn't take 4gb modules unless it was double sided. That was the only time I ever cared about single vs double sided.
Yeah thats why im askin, for compatibility reasons
I know that
but they list single and double, so im curious which would be better
Now for the fun part; finding single sided ram can be tricky. Sometimes ram that is denoted as "High performance or for extreme gaming" will get you some single sided ram. Otherwise, you might try this; Pins 33 and 45 on the board are used by double-sided memory, and can sometimes be an indicator as to whether a given module is single or double-sided. Happy Hunting!
Single-sided is probably better for gaming because of how it readss all the chips simultaneously at the memory controller. It is why I got a 4x4GB configuration rather than a 2x8GB RAM configuration.
Sorry Edmund that is BS. reading 4 sides and writing on it is ehavier for the memory controller then controling 2. And having 4 sides doesnt give higher performance as the limiting factor is the channel not the ammount of sides.
I can pretty much see it with me. If I only use 2x16GB I have no issues in OCing the RAM and it runs fine. Doesnt matter which 2 sticks I use. If I use all 4 I can barely OC it further without having stability issues because my memory controller cant keep up.
Dual vs single sided doesn't seam to make any meaningful difference.
And here is an article which for the most part just quotes Wikipedia:
https://www.oempcworld.com/support/SinglevsDualRAM.html
About the only difference is density. 4GB and lower is typically single sided. 8GB and higher is typically doublesided.
Doublesided uses bank switching to switch between which side is being used. Singlesided uses all the RAM chips at once. Both use all modules at once.
In terms of performance, the difference is negligible enough not to notice anything.
Exactly the oposit...
CPU's that only support 4 sides which most older CPU's only do would not work with 4 sticks then. Or only half of the RAm would then be recognized. at 8GB or higher you actually have it very hard to find any DS RAM.

scroll down there huge tables with different RAM modells and listed if they are SS or DS... all 4Gb sticks are DS while only a few 8GB are also DS the rest are SS. Like I said hard to find DS 8GB RAM sticks and impossible tofind 16GB DS RAM sticks (outside of server memory).
rotN, you can delete the thread whenever you pop by.
