How to clean a usb card reader.
I let my son borrow my usb card reader to transfer his micro sd card files to his pc about a week ago and i needed to use it today to put a few pics on a sd card to give to my father of my other sons award ceremony. I went to go get it from my sons room and it was all gunked up.

So my question is how can i clean it?
I was thinking on letting it soak in 91% isopropyl alcohol. I know you can use it to clean cd's and dvd's and electronic components like how you would to get paste off a cpu. But that is using a q-tip and dipping it in the alcohol. I never let something soak in it. So would it be safe to let it soak in it then giving it a day to dry even though alcohol drys fast.

Here are some pics of it.

Some contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol, a brush and some tissues should work just fine. I would not soak it, just dip it and scrub it clean.

You can't see down inside in that pic but it is also deep inside the usb connector. And using a tooth pick i think would screw the contacts up. Am i wrong thinking that?

No need to be careful with these things. There isn't anything delicate inside of the connector, just flat copper contact points.

For a little bit more then the price of a bottle of isopropyl you will also already have a new 8gb flash drive or a USB card reader so that is also an option.

This is a card reader that reads/writes to regular sized sd cards micro sd cards mini sd cards and a few others that is why i want to try and save it. Yea i know i can buy another one but my father bought it for me as a gift that is why i wanted to try and salvage it.
