Bent CPU Pins and the Future of it.
I have recently built a new computer and the unfortunate event that happened when I was replacing my stock cooler with my liquid radiator. The CPU came right out of the motherboard with the stock cooler and the retention arm was locked in place still. I knew it was bad when I saw it happen but when I put my CPU back on it wouldn't stay in. Two of the pins on the outside perimeter of the CPU were bent.

So my two options were to either go to the store to return it but it would have been a 3 hour drive there and back or to bend the pins back to where they need to go. I went with the second option and my computer works fine now but when I had a discussion with someone at work they told me that I should of taken it back.

Is there anything I need to worry about for the future of my processor since I had the bend the pins back into place?

Processor: AMD Ryzen 2700X 3.7GHz 8-Core
Motherboard: Gigabyte X470 AORUS GAMING 7 WIFI
Cooler: Corsair H150i PRO

As long as the CPU doesn't have any visual damage they should accept your RMA. Don't tell them about the cooler incident or they will refuse to RMA.

Next time don't pull the CPU cooler off, slide it off.

Unless you snapped a pin off the chip it's probably fine.
Like you said. It's working.

Twist the heat sink back and forth a little next time before ripping it off.

AMD uses FPGA...That means the pins are on the CPU in stead of in the motherboard's ZIFF socket. So bent pins can only be corrected via baking the CPU and then bending the pins back into a normal shape (requires special lized machining tools).

f_dog never siad AMD didn't use PGA chips.

And what is this about "baking" chips?

These "specialized tools" are a razerblade and a pencil pen.

If you want it precise you can use an oven to soften the pins, then use a machine press with a special ZIFF attachment to straighten the pins like new.

I never assumed that the OP said anything. I'm merely pointing out what method of connection through the ZIFF socket AMD uses.

baking the CPU is a terrible idea. The tempreture you need to actually soften the pins metal is to high for the CPU. Its a tempreture that is way beyond the rated temp for the CPU and also amd chips are soldered. So You hit a tempreture where the solder will melt, make a huge mess and destroy the chip...

Also you dont need specilized tools. I repair bend CPU pins and Motherboard pins with a simple small medical needle...Most other ppl I know repair such Motherboards or CPU's to it with small tweezers.
Yes with AMD Sockets (FM2 / AM2/3 / AM4)
Never pull on the cooler! Always gentle back and forth twisting motion til it breaks from from the paste. Pulling straight up could force the CPU to be pulled out of the socket; and those not ready for that to occur, usually end up bending the pins all to hell, at the least.

If the CPU working fine, then it's completely fine. You'd usually have to actually break a pin free from the CPU for it to no longer work; at least in the regards of this scenario.

No one will warranty your CPU if you physically damage it in any ways, so remember that.
