Seagate Firecuda SSHD DEFRAG?
Hi all this question has probably been posted countless times but i recently bought myself a seagate firecuda 1tb SSHD. (Hybrid drive)
Up until actually thinking about it i have been defragging it once a week but i am now wondering if it is a good idea to defrag it at all.

What happens when i defrag it does it:

-Move things from the cache back to the hard drive leaving the cache clear again

or

-Defrag just the hard drive

Im at a bit of a dead end with my knowledge on this things and google doesnt seem to want to help.

Also what are your opinions on superfetch/prefetch on these drives on or off and is it wise to disable the pagefile (i have 8gb ram it has never touched the page file)

Thanks in advance

James

Firstly
Theres no point in defragging ANY Drive Once a week, every month or 2 sure, but every week wont do any good. Defrags should really only be done after for example you install a decent sized game, after everything is defragged it wont have to be again for a while.

Secondly
Keep in mind that it only has a small SSD cache, the cache itself ONLY caches frequently used files, so defragging will have no effect on it.

superfetch/prefetch should be left on, it isnt an SSD its a HDD.
Pagefile should also be left on, especially since you only have 8GB RAM.

I also have that drive, but i use it for storage and games

Defragging HDD or SSHD every week will only wear it out faster, once per two months is plenty.

Nice one thank you both. I Guess im stuck in the ages where you needed to defrag alot.

I agree with the above sentiments. But on the other hand, there's a program called Ultimate defrag which will give you fine control of were on the HDD programs are laid out. For example, when I first got R6Seige I just let the OS install to my Steam games section. I found myself waiting for 12-17 loops of this ingame icon that spins as the levels load. By moving the game to the outside track(s) I reduced that by more than half.
