Rivatuner(which is installed with MSI Afterburner) can display framerate in games; MSI Afterburner is for hardware monitoring and overclocking.

It's an overclocking utility with hardware monitoring. With Rivatuner you can monitor your hardware while ingame.

Steam itself has a build-in FPS counter.

While ingame: SHIFT + TAB > Settings > In game > FPS counter

I know how to use the FPS counter in games but I want to see my cpu and you usages because whenever I play csgo I see my cpu going up really high but my gpu stays low
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

If you don't need to overclock, then you can just grab the RivaTuner application by itself (which is the program that handles the OSD for MSI Afterburner and is bundled with it).

Enjoy.

MSI-AB works on basically any AMD or NVIDIA GPU out there, Desktops and Laptops.
It's not restrictive like EVGA Precision for example.

Actually if you want a fan curve then you need Afterburner. Best to use them both as Afterburner can configure Rivatuner's output.

Well, yeah, but only for the gpu. But if temps of the gpu isn't an issue, and they do not want to overclock, then I don't see why having both programs installed would be necessary.

Good to have the option to install only what is needed in such cases.

Agree it's the best program for custom GPU fan speeds, really helps with the 390 in my MATX case. The detachable hardware monitor is also perfect for viewing temps and fan speeds on your 2nd monitor as you get your game on.

Ok this is going to sound bad but I use a laptop to game and I just thought it was odd that my cpu did all the work while my gpu was slacking at like 40% while cpu is 90%

CPU usage cannot be truly measured by a single percentage. That percentage is merely overall usage, but it does not tell the whole story. To get a more clear representation, look into each core usage. At 90 percent usage, you are more than likely maxing out a core or few. This is often referred to as a "bottleneck", as your gpu is held back from any more potential since it has to wait on the cpu, which is why it is stuck around 40 percent.

Wait so what you’re saying is that my cpu is bottlenecking and my gpu has to stay that low because that’s relying on the cpu?

Something has to feed data to the GPU. That is the CPUs job.
