TLDR: Audio Technica ATH-M40X w/ the V-Moda mic = $130 and loads better than any gaming headset.

Was just checking out the Philips SHP9500S[www.amazon.com] on amazon and according to the "Customers who bought this item also bought" section it's pretty popular with the V-moda boompro and the modmic. Also have to say it does sound quite amazing even compared to other open-backs in the $200+ range, it's easily my best set of headphones.
Phillips SHP9500s are great, but definitely bass lite. You'd have to use them with a DAC/AMP that has a bass boost or some kind of EQ. As far as replacement pads go, I wouldn't worry about any mods like that for any headphone if you're on a budget. Audio enthusiasts tend to be overly picky and dramatic. Just buy them off Amazon and try them out for yourself; if you don't like, return them.
Aw, see? Again I can't really use open-back headphones as they'll leak too much sound, but yes I know this is good for soundstage. And J have see these leak out sound quite loudly. Do you perhaps know of any good closed back alternatives?
It can be beaten, but to what degree depends on what sacrifices you are willing to make. The V-MODA Boom mic is on a whole different level in terms of quality, compared to the built in mic on the GSP 300 (and most gaming headsets).
If you really want to look for a comparable alternative headphones/mic combo, I'd recommend lowering your standards of wanting the V-MODA Boom mic, as you are just cutting too far into the funds to be able to get a decent enough pair of headphones without going over the $100 budget.
Yeah I've been trying to look around on youtube, reddit, and amazon. I just really can't find a pair of headphones that fits my description I need or that requires modification to be good. If you can name a few that may benefit me it would really help me out. Looking for clarity, good bass, decent soundstage, closed back, detachable cable so I can use the vmoda mic, under my budget including the mic. Most I can go is $125 if I have to.
Why do you want the V-MODA Boom mic in particular?
While it is a decent mic, it is in an odd placement. It is overkill for gaming needs, but not good enough for broadcast.
You could get a clip on mic that would still be better than most gaming headsets' built in mic.
Bringing your budget to $125 helps cover the costs of wanting that particular mic, but you are limiting yourself as you have to find headphones with a detachable cable AND enough clearance to fit the Boom Pro plug.
Buy a Lapel Boom Mic separately. Then get the Mic away from you if needed to avoid it picking up audio from your Headphones.
