For me yes but skipped to 4k really not much of price difference the small graphics come alive. A lot will depend on your budget. The recomendations are about to fly with a G sync monitor and 1080 or 1080ti. If your one of those people who pays more attention to the FPS than the game 1440p will serve you well.
Just enable DSR @ 1.78% and try out 1440p on your 1080p Display
See if your PC Specs can then handle running Games in 1440p firstly
4k is overrated for pc gaming. 1440p looks a lot better than 1080p and at higher framerates :)
Yea go towards 1440p @ 144+ Hz @ 27-inch or larger; anything smaller for screen size are all rubbish for the most part. They generally do not put new tech into smaller screens anymore.
Did the jump from 1080p to 1440p back in 2013 was definitely worth it for the couple years I ran it before I went to 4k in 2015. Make sure you get a 27" panel.
Not worth touching 4K yet until 120+ Hz is more common and affordable.

Hard to achieve stable 60 fps at 4k with demanding games so is too early for 4k gaming.

Not when you turn AA off and drop shadows to high in new games, lots of games have little difference from high to ultra with a big perfomance cost. If I can get SLI working in lot's of cases and that does produce 60fps maxed out in most games.

I was using Crossfire 290x's back when I first jumped to 4k and was very happy with above 30fps in games I play and lots of games supported Crossfire so I could hit my freesync range. Nobody needs 120fps to be able to play a game, and not everyone played twitchy first person shooters competitively.
