Please help: Low FPS with 1080 ti ryzen 1800x asus x370-f
Hi guys!

I have severe issues with my new system and I begin to doubt myself knowing anything about hardware.
I cannot play PUBG at stable 100 fps on mid quality settings. Also, the GPU never starts running: It stays at about 50%. My CPU is on idle at 20% and I checked all cores: None is at 100 % or close. System settings are to maximum performance, ASUS Tools to OC mode (max performance; also deinstalled them for testing purposes), NVidia settings are application driven.

These are my specs:

Mainboard:
- ASUS ROG STRIX X370-F GAMING
-- BIOS 3807 x64 (latest)
-- Mode: Asus Optimal (also tried Normal)

CPU:
- AMD Ryzen 1800x
-- @3968 MHz
-- @1.426 Core Voltage
-- Chipset Driver V5.12.0.38_20180205
-- Scythe Mugen 5 Cooler

GPU:
- ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 Ti OC (11GB DDR5X)
-- BIOS 86.02.39.00.23 (VBIOS 86.02.39.00.AS14)
-- Driver: 23.21.13.9135 (NVIDIA V 391.35)
-- Data Source. GPU Tweak II

HDD:
- Samsung SSD 960 EVO 1TB
-- Firmware 3B7QCXE7 (2018-04-12)
-- Samsung Magician Benchmark:
--- Sequential R/W 3,271/1,924 MB/s
--- Random R/W 274,658/241,699 IOPS
-- Data Source: Samsung Magician

RAM:
- G.SKILL FLARE X 16GB Kit 3200MHz
-- DDR4-3200
-- @ 3296 MHz
-- @ 1.350 V

OS:
- Win 10, fresh installed and updated
-- Version 1709, Build 16299.317
-- 64Bit
-- Data Source: winver

Power Supply:
- bequiet! Straight Power 10
-- 600W
-- 80Plus Gold

FurMark 1.20.0.1
- Preset 1080 FHD
- 0xMSAA
-- 9923 Pts

FurMark ROG Edition
- v0.6.1.0
- rog-01: FurMark(ROG)::OpenGL
-- Res: 1920x1080
-- Fullscreen
-- Benchmark Preset 1080
--- Score: 10058 pts - 167 FPS

I can provide more detail if you need it. This should have been a dream come true but this hardware is a nightmare right now...

I would appreciate sophisticated help! Thanks guys!

Your GPU is bottlenecked because you are likely playing at only 1080p. This PC is seriously overkill for 1080p gaming.

You can't just say "i want 100fps" and get it, doesn't work like that.
Chompman 12 ABR 2018 a las 14:53
Your gpu is working but it's fans are not running because it has not gotten hot enough.

You can modify that if you know how but it's not advisable usually.

@Omega: So your argument here is:
If my GPU has to calculate more, it is faster? That doesn't seem logical. Please elaborate how calculating more will make anything faster. I agree, that this gfx card can do way more and it is for VR stuff and such. This 1080p is an examplary benchmark.

@Chompman: They are running.

Do you have vsync on in the control panel? Is it gpu usage only hitting 50 or your fans are hitting 50%?

No. It doesn't calculate faster. You are not going to get any more FPS then this, your CPU is holding your back.

Your CPU is maxing out and can't feed your GPU any more data. All you can do now is up the graphical settings and increase the resolution.

This kind of rig is built for at least 1440p monitor or for 4K monitor, at 1080p both CPU and GPU dont even start to flex themselves. It doesnt mean that because all this power you should get like 500 fps in 1080p. doesnt work that way.
Put a proper high resolution monitor behind it and see the difference in performance compared to some weaker rigs.

So, you think, a 1070 can easily go for 144fps, but a 1080 ti wont make the cut?

Please read the post. The CPU is at 20%. This is hardly maxing out. And there is also not a single core of all 8 cores at maximum. So no, my CPU is not holding back my GPU. Please stop answering, if you want to invent facts.

Game will only uses so many cores and threads. PUBG only uses 4 + SMT if I remember right.

And looking at the state of PUBG optimization and polishing I doubt the game has any optimization for Zen.

This is the only logical explanation.

A 1080 ti is much better then a 1070.

Thats what I thought. SO there must be another reason.

The GPU isn't the only thing that matters. Something needs to feed data to it, that something is the CPU. Ryzen CPUs perform worse in games then Intel CPUs due to having a worse IPC and much lower clocks.

If you wanted the best possible FPS in games you should have gone with Intel. But even if you went Intel you would likely still not be able to achieve this mythical 100fps.

If your aim was to get as much fps in 1080p as possible then this is the wrong rig for that, should have gone with i7-8700K and GTX 1070 Ti.
What you have is best suited for running high resolution monitors 1440p, 1440p ultrawide, 4K with decent enough fps in modern AAA games that support multiple CPU cores and are not just running 2 or 4 cores.

1800x. that is the reason you have lower fps. it does not get the same fps as an 8700k. the gap will close as you increase resolution.
Revelene 12 ABR 2018 a las 16:32
How are you doing with other games? I believe PUBG has issues with AMD cpus, but not absolutely certain about that.

What is so mythical about 100 FPS? It is achieveable.
