Really? Coffee Lake was a rushed launch?! I didn't know that.
Oh boy so Intel is actually afraid that AMD might finally take over some of the market with their Ryzen CPUs?
Okay do you mind explaining a little more on the part of AMD CPUs and their motherboard as I have no idea what HEDT platform is. So are you saying that AMD is the future and not intel?
Also nope there's no way I'm shelling out for a 7900X as that is an expensive CPU and I'm more like mid level type of person in terms of PC parts.
RAM is already upgraded to 16GB and running it on X.M.P profile #1 @ 1600Mhz can't go any higher than that as motherboard doesn't support it.
CPU i could upgrade it but i can only go up to Kaby Lake CPU.
and i'm only staying on my current platform a few more years before I totally change everything as DDR3 almost nobody supports it anymore.
Vendors have discountinued selling DDR3 motherboards.
I got this PC back in 2016 and only had $850 to spend at the time when building it.
Hence why I'm running DDR3 and not DDR4, I'm still a newbie to PC building so I didn't realize that getting DDR4 would've been a better choice but would have costed me more and I desperately needed to replace my PC as my laptop was dying.
Let's see now how much prices will decrease, for under $200 you can buy a i3 8100+MB which is a deal considering it has 7th gen i5 performance while being cheaper.
AMD has the RYZEN 3 2200G which is still good and with slightly better iGPU and can be purchased with MB for under $200 too.
Definitely these 2 CPUs are the new reference in budget gaming builds.
Pentium is surpassed nowadays.
HEDT means enthuasiest platform, the big CPUs like Threadripper and i9s. I'm not saying AMD is the future and not Intel. You could go both ways.
AMD offers more as far as the "motherboard specs" go when it comes to HEDT (Threadripper vs Skylake-X). Their chips also have solder between the CPU and its integrated heatspreader, so they don't overheat as much. That's about it.
Ah okay. Makes more sense now.
So between AMD and Intel what would be the best entry/mid level platform choice to go for in the future, holding off doing any upgrades till prices on RAM fall because they are ridiculous currently.
Ah okay, but what about in terms of motherboards preferably non-overclockable choices as I run stuff stock speeds. But worries me to hear that new Intel stuff over heats and etc.
