Dead motherboard ?

Hi. My friend at work, he says his motherboard has died. However, it does boot up, just won’t accept his keyboard and mouse. He claims to have tried another keyboard and mouse, to no avail.

So he took it to the shop to get repaired and they said he needs a new motherboard.

Is this really the case? Or could I just order him a new ps/2 port and send him on his way?

Not that I know of. But some people do still use it, and in fact swear it's superior to USB.

I would have thought advantages in sensor technology, ergonomics and software/macro integration would easily outweigh a clearer signal. I certainly wouldn't give up my Swiftpoint for a '90s IBM mouse.
