"The configuration registry database is corrupt"
Made a thread earlier about issues with my graphics card. Think I almost solved it.

To make this simple, I went to my device manager and found the "Unknown device" which was my GPU but now when trying to download the driver it says "The configuration registry database is corrupt." Any ideas on how to fix this?

Are you sure it's the GPU? What is the hardware ID?

It said Unknown Device but when I go to click on it and update it, my GTX 980 shows up with a failed install of the driver and the registry database corruption thing.

Sounds like you have a corrupt registry, I believe you can use the windows 10 media creation tool to repair the installation. (assuming of course you are using windows 10).

What OS are you running? Windows 10? Windows 7? Windows 8?

Did you use a registry cleaner like CCleaner?

I would try removing the drivers with DDU app via safe mode. And then try to install the drivers again.

^Do this.

DDU = Display Driver Uninstaller.

CCleaner is good, i use it myself but if your registry is corrupt it will not fix it.

Forgot to mention, I did try using DDU, however the NVIDIA installs keep failing

If that is the case, I would recommend getting a updated version of Windows that burn to a disk, or make the ISO for it on a USB, which then you want to do a repair to the installation, if not able to do it, just reformat the system as it seem something has terribly went wrong, as being last resort.

More importantly, what else could I do to fix the registry problems?
Omega 28 FEB 2018 a las 7:33 p. m.
You can try the Windows troubleshooter and if that doesn't fix the issue you will most likely have to do a clean installation of Windows.

Try these first...
> CHKDSK /F /R (for the C drive)
> Disk Cleanup (dump all the junk files)
> CCleaner (dump the temp junk files; except for things like History/Cookies)
> CCleaner (registry cleanup)
> Then do DDU > Safe Mode > Restart > select all 3 brands and clean; reboot when done)
> Reinstall Motherboard Chipset and then GPU; multiple reboots might be needed to complete.

CCleaner is useless as a registry cleaner for Windows 10 is the point I wsa making. It is good at everything else that Disk Cleanup (the built in Windows disk cleaning tool) can do.

@OP I asked if you installed CCleaner because as a registry cleaner, it is known to mess with Windows 10's registry.

OP, CCleaner works fine, even the registry cleaner (has worked perfectly for me from Windows 7 through 10 on multiple PCs).
Why don't you tell the OP which version of Wnidows 10 you are using...also whatver happened to "Just don't use the registry cleaning feature"? Seems you deleted you comment on that. Nice to know you have a knack for folllowing my posts specifically as well.
