[SOLVED] Problems with the qualcomm atheros qca9377 Wifi card
Hello, I bought a new Acer Aspire 5 (A515-51G-303X) / I3 - 6006U / 4GB ram / Nvidia 940 mx Laptop, and it has the qualcomm atheros qca9377 Wifi card.

after setting it up, I couldn't get a whole much done, because the download speed was just terrible, I was barley able to download Google Chrome, thinking that Microsoft Edge was the probleme. but no, downloading from Chrome or Steam desktop app, gives me around 100kbps that's never stable, goes as low as 30kbps and sometimes 0bytes download speed. while on my other laptop I can stream full hd Youtube videos with no buffering and download speed as high as 2 Mbps. I have other monitoring program on my old laptop and I can confirm that no one else was using the internet. I did what I can do (restarting the router, messing with the settings, updating all drivers (which took forever.)) and no result. I looked it up on google and many people reported problems with this Wireless card. however many fixed it disabling what's called 'WMM' on their router settings. something I don't have when I access my router settings.
Thanks in Advance

Sounds to me like you simply have a weak Wifi connection.

I'm setting next to the wifi box xd
not the case here, not that I can confirm that the speed is fine with my other laptop.

Since the computer is brand new, I would contact Acer and explain the problem. It may be that the card is faulty or the antenna connection is bad.

Try downloading the latest driver for the wifi adapter on your other laptop and transfer it to the new one if you have a USB thumb drive, could simply be that.

Also, make sure the laptop isnt updating when you are testing its speed as that will affect results as well.

I'm thinking about that option, I hope it doesn't get to that point cause I really like the performance of this laptop. however I have a two years warranty so yeah. I'm waiting till Thursday, by then I can try other Wifi routers to make sure I pin point the problem

I have done that already, drivers don't seem to be the problem here.
that's a good idea, I noticed that it was updating while I was trying to download google chrome. I got excited cause I thought they were the problem. after disabling them. turns out that the download speed was still too unstable dropping as low as 30kbps and sometimes 0 kbps!

Only thing left to try then is

Power cycling the modem/router
and disabling the wifi adapter then troubleshoot it and have Windows correct/enable it.

If neither of those works then its possible its a faulty adapter
-

Also
Try using an ethernet cable to make sure the ethernet card is supplying the correct speeds as well, assuming the laptop has an ethernet port which it should.
-

and naturally, makee sure none of your other devices are using the internet to make sure you get proper results.

can you elaborate on how to do that? what do you mean by Power cycling?

its simply just unplugging the power from the modem/router, waiting a minute or 2 then plugging them back in.

I would unplug the ethernet cable from the modem and the coax from the modem too (or whatver connection type the OP's ISP is using..hopefully it is cable coax).

.. That wouldn't do anything. The router needs to restart to fix whatever is bugging it. Unplugging it from the modem (which most people don't even have anymore) will not do anything.

Thew first and foremost thing to look at is a SpeedTest run. OOkla suually provides the most accurate speed testing for real world applications.

http://www.speedtest.net/

We will need to know your Ping, Download, and upload rates from there.

The NAT connection to the outside typically carries an electrical charge. In order for a proper modem reset to work, everything needs to be unplugged form it for about 30 seconds to 2 minutes to disipate any trace of residual charge.

Once the connection is resolved after plgguing everything back in again, the OP will need to use SpeedTest to make sure the issue is not the ISP and likely the LAN setup the OP has.

You are missing the point

His problem is with the Wifi on a laptop whereas his other devices have no speed issues.

So all thats needed is for him to try a power cycle and thats all, unplugging all the cables is not needed to try and fix a Wifi issue with a single device

so the old turn the wifi off and on again, don't see how that would help since all other devices face no problems at all. in anyway the Download speed is 16.7 mb/s and upload is 2.4 mb/s.

I fixed it,

I had to go to Device Manager > Wifi card settings > Advance Tab > Wireless options, and then switch them till I found one that worked.
