Crossover post from Steam Link Beta Test: the serving platform
So; just a couple minutes ago I posted the initial results of my testing the Steam Link Beta Application: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/8/1693795812306295591/

Over in this thread I wanted to follow up more on some of the details of the base system performance of the Steam Client Beta version 1526683293.

For starters; I'm using a fairly recent software platform; Linux Mint 18.x with current repositories. My hardware platform isn't quite so recent; an FX 6300 with a GPU identified as Cape Verde (RadeonHD 7770).

The primary problem to discuss here; at least in regards to the Steam Client; is the handling of the Steam Controller's driver. While I have not tried the recently enabled Bluetooth function of the Steam Controller; I have repeatedly for years attempted to use the Wireless Receiver and the Direct USB connection on Linux platforms.

On all of the platforms to date; I have generally had to jump through the USB Hoops as outlined in ArchLinux FS#46752. After doing so I am then able to use the Steam Controller to control the Steam Application...

but not actually to control any games.

Oddly; the Steam Button to bring up the overlay still works even though the rest of the control surfaces are completely non responsive. There are no errors reported by the Steam Client's internal testing procedures; and if I activate the option to overlay the Controller HUD... I am able to observe the visual indicators from the Steam Overlay on the status of controller input activity.

So; I don't know what's broke or why... but it's been broke for... well... as long as I've had the Steam Controller.
