Can I somehow tell if I have k or non k version CPU?
So I was wondering is there a way to tell if I have the k or non k version of the Intel i7 2600?

Its been a while since I first bought the PC (about 5ish years maybe more) so I would love to know if there is a way to check the actual version .

Also if I don't have the k one and I have the non k version is it possible to over clock it with ought crashing the system?

CPU-Z - www.cpuid.com

or just Run dxdiag if u dont want to download a prog, it'll tell you there also.

Being able to overclock depends on what motherboard you have as well, not just K or Non-K

Ah thanks a lot! Gonna check that as soon as I get home! My motherboard is a Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3

If its a Z68 or Z77 based board then it'll be easy
If not, then not so much

CPU-Z is fine, but if there's a function built into Windows that does the job - and does all you need, why download something else? It's not "lazy", it's good practice not to download programs as a *first* resort.

It'll also tell you on the task manager if you have Win10.

You don't even need an app for that; it's all right there within your BIOS

so aparently i found out that i dont have the k version... so saddly i wont be able to overclock it much if im correct... as for my motherboard model i had to use CPU-Z since it wasnt showing in windows. Its the Gigabyte Ultra Durable 3 Z77M-D3H
So im not gonna be able to overclock at all am i?

Without a K model, not really

But whats the issues? There really is not anything u can't run on that CPU.
Long as you have 16GB RAM, SSD, Win10 64bit on that SSD and decent GPU; you should be fine.

well i was actually trying to emulate a few games and maybe run some games smoother than what i am now. I have been trying to play ark decently for quite awhile now but my gtx 960 4gb just wont cut it. An upgrade is impossible atm as well so overclocking was what first came to mind

CPU is fine; you need 16GB RAM and a much better GPU, like 1060 6GB

Well
You have a good motherboard at least

So you could always get a 4790k or something, then you can overclock with no problem

16 gb ram is a "check". only possible issues atm are my cpu (some people told me that at least) and my gpu which is kinda old

GTX 960 can't run games like ARK, not above low settings @ 1080p; it's extremely weak.

You can go get an 8700K if u like, still gonna run games like crap with a GTX 960

I7-2600 is still pretty good, considering its age. If you had a better gpu, you could easly max out most games with it. Gtx960 is just :poop: and is holding you back.
