As long as the PCIE Extension actually supports the full X16 with all pins; no.
It's just an extension, nothing more.
Many systems in the past already did it this way.
One example in recent times > Alienware X51
Which uses an ITX Motherboard + PCIE Daughter Expansion board so the GPU can fit in the system vertically.

Here is a standard ATX Desktop with GPU in Vertical Config for better display and cool-air-intake purposes > https://i.ytimg.com/vi/DpKhIuc2a_I/maxresdefault.jpg
Nice, i might consider it aswell then, i have the same card as op
Back-plate on GPU helps alot also.
For the reference blower GPU, those usually are a non-issue since they have a one-way path for it's cool air intake and hot air exhaust.
I suppose I should've googled this from the beginning. I've always done this myself - I suppose if I'd had more sleep this week I would've realized that there's an open market for these parts and somebody would've built one by now.
Via a proper bracket that will hold the weight of the entire GPU.
As you will no longer be resting the GPU on any PCIE port.
Yep. Already found and ordered a kit that's compatible with both the case and the GPU.
I don't think u understand.
You can just connect the GPU via PCIE extension and lay the dam thing down...
But to actually mount it vertically, you need a Case with room to do that, or a bracket.
These are two different issues at play. Having the GPU away from the Motherboard and connecting it to the PCIE is not of any issue at all, as that is a simple extension ribbon cable.
Ok, very nice. Take some pictures maybe once u get it all done.
Wich one you ordered?
Cooler Master's catchily named Universal Vertical VGA Card Holder with PCE-Express Riser.

I'll gladly upload some photos on Master Race Geeks once it's fitted. This is a very nice looking build, I'm very proud of it. Turning the GPU vertical really would be the final step. And maybe some red cables instead of white.
