New laptop with GTX 1060 but cannot go above 100Hz @ 1440p
Hello,
I bought a new laptop with 120Hz refresh rate.
It has a GTX1060 and then a HDMI 2.0 outlet.
I have a 27" Asus which support 1440p @ 144Hz.
It works fine with my desktop pc which has GTX 1070 and using HDMI 2.0.
But on my laptop I can't go above 100Hz at 1440p.
I dont' understand what is wrong.
Any help appreciated.

EDIT : Seems I can't use external monitor only. I can only "extend" my desktop at 144P@100Hz.

EDIT : Seems the problem comes from NVidia Optimus, which uses embedded graphics for desktop.

EDIT : Laptop is the Asus ROG GL502-VM

Nothing is wrong. You have a less powerful GPU in the laptop that can't push out as much framerate as a 1070.

First, thanks for your answer.
I understand the problem about the framerate, but ingame, here the laptop doesn't even accept above 100Hz at 1440p on desktop : the external monitor turns off until the countdown to confirm has ended and the resolution has fallen back to 1440p @ 100Hz.

Yes it is the same cable and the same input on the monitor that I am using for my desktop pc with GTX 1070.

That is a common misconception. HDMI 1.4 is 100% able to support 1080p at 144hz. It's the monitors that the majority of the time don't allow it. An example of a monitor that supports it is the Viewsonic XG2041.

Where is your proof for that statement? It has the bandwidth yes but the HDMI cable only give access to 120Hz which every Wikipedia page even will tell you.

Which laptop is it?

Technically HDMI can do it, if the manufacturer bothered with it, is another question - often they don't.

Theoretically by bandwidth it could. In reality you can't and it's only specified to 120Hz... Where do you guys get that HDMI could run 144Hz? It never could go beyond 120Hz.

A fast google search even tells you that...

Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, anyone can write anything.
You have to read producers technical sheets.
