How long of an HDMI cable were you using?
And are you sure it's HDMI 2.0 capable cable? Yes this part matters alot.
What reciever did you say you had?
They shouldn't get hot, unless it's actively driving audio, especially at high dB/Volume output.
I've even taken off the heatsinks on receivers and put thermal paste on them, it helps.
I have 4 260 watt Technics speakers in 4 corners, 2 small 30 watt surrounds, 1 150watt center, and a 300 watt sub. Per channel output for my amp is 210 watts, it tends to get hot when i play music and crank the volume past 70
No issues with 4K support either.
And yes, the Receiver is actually powered those speakers, so yes it will get hot at higher volumes.
If the receiver is getting too hot, it is either a defect with the receiver or poor ventilation. There should be nothing sitting on top of the receiver and it should have at least 6 inches of clearance on the top, left and right sides. If this isn't enough you might be able to get some small fans to sit on top of the receiver to pull hot air out and push it up and away.
Also, in my personal experience, I have not been able to get a PC to send audio only through an HDMI connection. My setup has changed since then, but I used to have 2 monitors connected via displayport to my PC and then had HDMI connected to a receiver for audio. The only way I was able to get audio out through HDMI was to set the receiver has a display (had it set for 1080p) and only then could I select that as an audio device and configure my audio.
For a few years like this I ended up effectively having 3 monitors. I only had 2 physical monitors, but the receiver was treated like a third monitor by Windows.
Something like a Receiver and how u had all that hooked up. You should power on the Display and Receiver before you ever power on the PC.
Glad to hear you got it working!
