I can't see that stuff "over-heating" unless it's like 45*C in your house or something.
Well Kaboose did say that it became hot when these blackouts happened. And he was pushing his reciver to display a 4K resolution via video passthrough.
It also happens when I first startup so I dont know if its really heat. Its most often during games that are more hardware heavy than light games. it could be just the signal

How long of an HDMI cable were you using?
And are you sure it's HDMI 2.0 capable cable? Yes this part matters alot.

If it is already hot....and that hotness caused screen blackouts then you probaly shouldn't be using your reciver to push audio like that from that GPU.
It warms up but i dont know if its excesively hot considering I havent owned any other receiver however the amp cant even max out my speakers for another 50-60 watts
My Sony BDVe580 never feels hot to the touch....Did once though when I pushed its HDMI potrts to be used as AV. Unfortunately for me, mine only plays HDMI audio when there is actual video throughput as well.

What reciever did you say you had?

They shouldn't get hot, unless it's actively driving audio, especially at high dB/Volume output.

Well I will discuss this one in private lol.

And again, if it gets hot, stick a fan on it.

I've even taken off the heatsinks on receivers and put thermal paste on them, it helps.

Goose...can you by chance please tell us the make and model of your stereo reciever?

I have specified it before but once again it is an ONKYO TX NR-676
I have 4 260 watt Technics speakers in 4 corners, 2 small 30 watt surrounds, 1 150watt center, and a 300 watt sub. Per channel output for my amp is 210 watts, it tends to get hot when i play music and crank the volume past 70

Yup, pretty top of the line Receiver there.
No issues with 4K support either.

And yes, the Receiver is actually powered those speakers, so yes it will get hot at higher volumes.

yeah good ol copper wire. I'm going to separate so I can at least see, and if my sound starts to black out I will consider mounting a fan on the case to get some airflor in there

If the receiver is getting too hot, it isn't because you are connecting a PC to it or because you are pushing video and audio at the same time. A/V receivers are supposed to be able to handle both video and audio, it is what they are intended to do. Connecting a PC to it to push video and audio is no different than connecting a 4k bluray player or a cable box or whatever else. In any event, the receiver should be able to handle it because that is its' purpose.

If the receiver is getting too hot, it is either a defect with the receiver or poor ventilation. There should be nothing sitting on top of the receiver and it should have at least 6 inches of clearance on the top, left and right sides. If this isn't enough you might be able to get some small fans to sit on top of the receiver to pull hot air out and push it up and away.

Also, in my personal experience, I have not been able to get a PC to send audio only through an HDMI connection. My setup has changed since then, but I used to have 2 monitors connected via displayport to my PC and then had HDMI connected to a receiver for audio. The only way I was able to get audio out through HDMI was to set the receiver has a display (had it set for 1080p) and only then could I select that as an audio device and configure my audio.

For a few years like this I ended up effectively having 3 monitors. I only had 2 physical monitors, but the receiver was treated like a third monitor by Windows.

I think it might not be overheating as I recollect that it blacks out even when the pc and receiver has just turned on. Eitherway splitting the lines should stop the image from being interupted.

Something like a Receiver and how u had all that hooked up. You should power on the Display and Receiver before you ever power on the PC.

Happy to say the adapter has fixed the issue. Only downside is i have two detected displays because HDMI always pushes video and if I disable the display it disables sound, however this is not a real problem just a quirk, but the blackouts are no longer present which is excelent
