Eyefinity issue
Here's the situation. I have 2 identical 4K monitors which work perfectly fine on my AMD Radeon 7900 series. I decided to give a shot with Eyefinity but once it was activated, both of my screens went black. Impossible to use Windows 10 (version 1709). I attempted to restart Windows and both screens work when I'm prompted to enter my BIOS power up password and when I see the Windows logo with spinning dots (duplicated displays). After that, nothing. Black, I can't interact with Windows. It's booted, but I can't see it.

If I turn the PC off, unplug one of the screen, I can boot like normal and I can interact with Windows just fine but the Eyefinity tab under AMD Radeon software is gone.

How can I make it so both of my displays work again?

At this date, I have version 18.2.2 of AMD Radeon software installed.

For anyone who happens to have the same issue as I did, I formatted the computer, but I marked a possible answer just below as formatting wiped out the drivers and made both of my displays work again. So it is only to assume that uninstalling your graphics drivers will revert back changes you made.

You are only ever going to get one screen to show a picture for BIOS and login screens.
That's because multi-screens don't work until AFTER the OS loads up the Driver + Configuration you've setup.

Just run DDU app, select Safe Mode, Reboot.
Wipe out all Displays and GPU Drivers, then reboot and reinstall:
> Motherboard Chipset Driver
> GPU Driver suite

Do all of this using what Display you want to be considered the Primary Display.

After Drivers are installed and you've rebooted, plug in your extra Displays and then configure them for Extended Mode.

If you are using multi-displays via DVI & HDMI together; this will not work on some GPUs, as DVI + HDMI are usually shared. Which is why GPUs have "many" DP ports now, to combat this.

Are the drivers up-to-date? If not what version are you running?

And what GPU do you have exactly.

Yes. I updated the AMD Radeaon software to the latest version yesterday (18.2.2).

The card type is an AMD Radeon Graphics Processor.
The card I have is an AMD Radeon HD 7900 series.

If you need more information, let me know.

Unless you're on Vega class of GPU, don't use 18.xx
There is little reason to and in-fact may actually cause issues with many older GPUs, especially something as outdated as Radeon HD 7xxx series

There is, as it fixes the DX9 bug.

The DX9 bug was caused by the 17.12.1 Adrenalin update.

Good lord.... Year 2018 and we're still breaking and fixing DX9 crap... are you serious?
Yea it's why I'll never buy an AMD GPU moving forward in the near future; they have some of the worst drivers out there, making their hardware a pointless purchase unless you need lower budget mining GPUs perhaps.

I heven't changed my computer in the last 6 years. It is ithe only computer I bought pre-built from HP because of time constraints. I am pretty amazed that this HP computer is still holding up, but that's not the issue I am having right now.

I wanted to reformat the computer a while ago already and haven't done this but would it fix the issue? I'll remind you that I only have 1 screen plugged in so that I can interact with Windows and therefore talk to you. If I plug the second one, I only get duplicated displays with the BIOS and Windows boot logo with dots spinning. After that, screens stay black.

If I try to plug the second screen while having Windows running, both screens also go black.

I feel stupid for enabling Eyefinity because both screens worked just fine before I enabled it and despite Windows responding to whatever I do with the keyboard, I can't blindly guess what to click.

I would really appreciate a fix to this because out of the Google searches I've done prior to posting this thread, I had no answer about the entire operating system being unusable because of black screens.

Thanks for the answer. I will follow your instructions. In the meantime, I took a picture and video (removed) with my phone so that you can understand what I meant with "duplicated displays".

Also, I forgot to mention I had to temporarily use an HDMI cable for the left display because the MiniDP adapter is taking too much space that I can't plug another one in the second MiniDP port. I've ordered 2 new cables to fix the issue (hopefully).

The right screen is using the proper cable that goes from DisplayPort to MiniDP (with adapter).

AMD just did a big overhaul of their drivers for the Adrenalin patch and a few games using a "outdated DirectX Library" mainly old Command and Conquer titles were unable to start afterwards.

People made big deal about it because an AMD engineer said they are not going to fix a driver bug with a outdated API. But AMD not much later officially responded and said it will be fixed in the next patch.

Nvidia will also break tons of stuff in every new update but it usually doesn't cause such a big controversy.

Overall, it's un-avoidable to a certain extend.
Newer OS and Drivers reach a point were it makes for an issue of sorts for older apps/games; that's just how it is.

I'll mark this as the answer to this discussion even though I formatted my computer anyway.

I just downloaded AID64 and it reports that the card is a 7950. Apologies for the inaccuracies earlier.

So the issue has been resolved now?

If reinstalling fixed the issue it was most likely a driver issue and wiping the drivers with DDU as Bad Motha suggested would have been likely to fix the issue aswell.

It's fine, AMD/ATI cards can be a pain to identify sometimes. It will always have to be done the hard way with those cards.
