Elgato 1080p 60FPS Capture Card Questions
Is it worth it?

Is there a cheaper alternative that does the exact same?

Do you need another PC to process the video or does the card do it itself?

I want to record and process from one PC only, but no big deal if I can’t, I got a laptop too.

1. Depends on the person if they need it, or not, as you would want it if you're using a console. Some games have share play, recording, screenshot disable because the devs, or whatever reason disable them on the game they don't want to be share.

2. Cheaper alternative might be PCI / PCI-e recording cards, but depends on the usage for it, which is idea for console, or whatever you want to use it for, let say play games on one PC, and send video input into 2nd PC to stream/record, then comes back out to your monitor, same thing that happening with Elgato, but also sending the input to PC as well.

3. The Elgato HD60 needs a PC, it doesn't record on it's own. If you wanted something to capture on the card itself without needing a PC, there few of them, such as Hauppauge HD PVR Rocket, AverMedia Live Gamer Portable, etc, which you have to look at their pros, and cons, when comparing captures devices.

4. Why not use Radeon ReLive, OBS, or etc, if you just want to record your gameplay on PC only. Wouldn't have to buy anything, as the only reason to get a capture card/device, is to capture something, that you can't on the device you want to capture. So I hope you understand as if this is only because you want to record what's going on your PC, then just use software.

well some capture cards can save the video files for a certain duration to a connected external drive. But if youz want to stream you need a 2nd pc which itself could even be a 100$ laptop as it does not need to really process something just uploading the stream.

the reason behind capture card is to splti a video signal which then can be uploaded on a 2nd pc so that your gamign pc has not to handle the laod of streamign keeping allr esources for playing. that way you want suffer from lwoer performance which every major streamer does as well.

STuff like OBS or any other software or PCI card cant do that.

Which of them is the best value for the money?
Hauppauge HD PVR Rocket need you to have a USB thumb drive to record your video to.
AverMedia Live Gamer Portable need you to have a SD card to record your video to.

IMO I would say AverMedia Live Gamer Portable.

Can they both do 1080p 60FPS?

I might pick one up as my recorder has gone laggy and I don't wanna reconfigure the settings. (Nobody's got time for that! :P)
They both do 1080p 30 FPS, if you want portable PC free device, i'm sorry there is none ATM, you will have to get Elgato HD60, or any device that also does 1080p 60fps, and use it with your laptop, as that's the only option you will have.

Ahh, at least it will be consistent and it will not eat any performance!

There are so many famous YouTuber's that don't do 60FPS yet, so I guess it's not a big deal.

How's the quality? High bitrate, clear and vibrant colours?

Edit: Is this a better option?

For recording the quality is pretty good, i'm not sure about the bitrate, and for colours it seems pretty good.

Found out they made AverMedia Live Gamer Portable 2, as which does do 1080p 60FPS.

The Globmall HD Game Capture Box can do 60fps at 720p mode, and 30fps at 1080p, but I think it will be good as well for recording quality with the H.264.

-edit-

There also AverMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus version which does 4k, if you wanted to do 4k, but the files are going to be huge for sure.

So, which is the best one to buy? I don't want to spend a lot of money because I don't make money from YouTube videos.
Just did edit to my post, didn't know they went out of their way to do these things, which I haven't been keeping up to date with this stuff, but if you're after 1080p 60fps get the AverMedia Live Gamer Portable 2, if you don't mind having your recording in 30FPS for 1080p then any devices you pick that does 1080p 30fps will be perfectly fine for your needs.

30FPS should be fine, do these kind of things go on sale? I could wait for a sale.

I wouldn't know about that sorry, it depends when retailers want to put it on sale, or if someone wants to sell it for less which you have to keep an eye out.
Cheaper option: Shadowplay/OBS
