What can you do with an old IBM server
I've got an old IBM server. I think its an x3650 and it has two Xeon E5450 cpu's and a few sas drives, I'm just wondering what kinda things you can do with these things.

While it is overkill for it; yea make it a Home NAS.
Could even put those Xeons to work doing VM stuff.
Or even a game server host for friends/family.

The only game I can think of is minecraft lol, but as a Home NAS makes sense totally forgot you could do that. Thanks

Unless you just sell it off. There is not much use for SAS drives in consumer desktops.
So it's not like you can pick it apart and make use of it.
And the RAM is most certainly ECC flavor, which most consumer desktops wouldn't play well with either.

So yea I'd say maybe wipe it clean; however if u do not own a "Server" Windows OS, then I'd just clean up the OS, maybe wipe and create a new user. And overall make do with what it has to offer, or sell it off as a complete as-is system. If the HDDs are wiped clean, well you need an OS that supports more than one physical CPU in order to properly use it.

It has linux on it at the moment, too bad my dell is missing its heat sinks otherwise I'd move the cpu's and ram over to it.
