Is NVidia stock of GPUs always out of Stock
Because there Founders Edition GTX 1080ti purchased through NVidia still only costs $700. I really wanted to get an Asus Strix OCed 11 GB GTX 1080ti. But after looking at some reviews the difference in performance is not great ...2-6 FPS. The difference in price right now is approximetelly double with the CryptoMiners demand and price inflating. I am thinking however its going to be tough to get one.

It's not a good idea right now.

Unless you just have a whole bunch of money... then I'd just buy what you want and forget about the price.

Heard some people stalk that site along with EVGA direct, good luck joining that chaos.

I'd pay the extra $400 just to not have to do that. I'll pay a lot for my own time.

Well u could buy the FE, replace the cooler, arctic accelero or ek if u want water cooling and do some oc.

I am afraid I would not be happy with the temps the FE GPU would run at. I am used to Asus brand GPUs that generally have superior cooling using Heatpipes. My present Asus OCed GTX 970 never reaches 70C. Maxing out in the mid 60s with the most demanding games. The highest temp I have ever seen was 68C...after several hours straight playing AC Origins. After looking at some reviews they recorded temps of 87C with some demanding games. It does not have heat pipes relying on just heat sinks and has a single fan. I realize 87C is still within specs but I am not comfortable with temps that high.

I would not want to actually modify the cooling as you suggested EyMi...its in an enclosed cover.

Best plan right now, might take some time, but the savings are probably worth it,given the cost of some 1080ti's, the titan Xp finally makes sense lol

You know a heat pipe is just part of the heatsink right ? It's simply a copper or aluminium pipe used to move the heat further down the card to another section of the heatsink.
Taking apart a founders card is no more complex than any other, as long as components are with in spec, there is no danger.

Blower coolers are actually remarkably effective, it's just they make a bloody racket with the fans turned up to be most efficient.

Heat pipes are definetelly more effective. They get the heat away from the chip and move it to where the fans can quickly remove the heat..well away from the chips themselves. I am well aware of how they work and what they are made of ( which doesn't matter ..what matters is what they do ).. Check out the specs of an Asus Strix GPU for cooling some time.

Keep in mind that reviewers typically only do base clocks and that manufacturer oc are typically only a tiny 100mhz or so. If you want to get as much performance you would want a top tier aib card with a good cooler and do manual oc. AIB cards generally have better vrms. Nvidia basically hard locked the voltage of base pascal to 1.094. AIB cards are the only ones that change the vrm and bios to get around this.

99% of AIB doesn't have unlocked voltage bios. I think only very specific model meant for LN2 like KINGPIN has unlocked bios. Otherwise you need to flash it.
Monk 2018 年 1 月 24 日 下午 3:01
The components used on founders are very good actually, and fitting an aftermarket cooler or water cooling it is better than pretty much any aib card offers.
I don't need to look at a strix card to know how the coolers work,I was merely pointing out that it isn't just heat pipes that make it a good cooler as they are simply part of the heatsink. Also, watercool ftw :)

Edit.
Forgot to add, only things like kingpin have modded voltage limits, and I am unsure if even it does to be honest, though one of the 3 bios may have it, the main way around voltage limits us to shunt or power mod a card where you intentionally short circuit the shunts fooling the card allowing it to pull more power.

Pretty sure Kingpin does as it was advertised.

Ah, there you go then :)

And what I was pointing out is there is a significant difference between just a heatsink and a heatsink with heatpipes added.

You can always fit on Morpheus II if you don't like watercool. It performs roughly the same thanks to the ginormous heatsink.
Viper 2018 年 1 月 24 日 下午 3:12
Well I will research adding cooling to a GPU and what is involved.
John Doe 2018 年 1 月 24 日 下午 3:47
Some of the 1080 Ti cooling solutions are, Arctic Extreme (the huge air cooler), Accelero Hybrid (AIO 120 / 140), and full cover waterblocks. A well clocking reference, under water, will do pretty well. I don't like those huge air coolers, too much weight hanging off the card IMO. The Titans come and go to stocks, unsure about the 1080 Ti on the Nvidia store.
