AMD fx 8320 vs i3 6100
Quick question , is this a worthwhile upgrade ? also does anyone know how the i3 holds up in VR ?

6100 is slightly better but for VR is a little weak.

Perfect , wasnt 100% so may just save more for an i5, thanks.

I suggest a 8400 for VR as minimum ($200+MB+DDR4 RAM).
You can still use your actual cpu until you save enough.
For gaming that FX is still acceptable for some time.

the current one is at 4.3ghz with a GTX 1060 6gb so you think VR will be ok with it ?

For gaming at 1080p high settings yes, for VR you could need to drop graphics settings and resolution to achieve an acceptable minimum framerates (90 +- fps).

have just looked up a few videos and from what i can see FX is more than capable for light VR titles which is all i want, i dont care for AAA VR titles i just want to try it out and see if its worth properly investing in

Tbh, not rly.

The vive is atm ~ $500-$600 (?)
To play some low demanding games.. dunno, I would save the money for new hardware parts..
And would buy the vive/rift later.

i would be more looking at Microsoft MR at the moment because from what ive heard from using a demo of it at my local PC world shop from a microsoft rep it is less demanding on hardware than vive or rift so i would probably just go with that one and hey if it doesnt work out im not out a ton because they only cost 279.99 here in ireland.

Get a Pentium G4560

Performs just as good as the 6100 while costing less than both

Don't buy the FX chip, it has no upgrade path

Run steam VR test. It's ok since you don't play AAA the test is good enough.

yea its getting the top of the green bar with the Steam VR check but ive heard that VR test is not trustworthy because it is a static test like it doesnt show the fps while moving around
