Playing DVD's from another region on my PC
I want to buy something on Amazon that comes with a PAL DVD. While I wouldn't be buying it cheifly for the DVD, it would be nice to be able to play it regardless. I did some very brief googling and found that in order to play DVD's from other regions, your PC, DVD playing software, and drive must be capable of doing it. It had instructions about how to set your region in Windows (although I am not home at the moment and am unable to set it), and I assume that between the three pieces of DVD playing software I have (*Windows Media Player, VLC, and WinDVD9+Blu Ray), at least one of them can do it. That just leaves my drives. I have an internal LG GH24NSC0R and an external Xbox 360 hddvd drive (and before you ask, yes it works on PC, and yes it can play DVD's and CD's). Does anyone know if either of these are region free or can easily be modified to be so?

*I'm still using 7, so it's whatever version came with Ultimate Edition.

At-least before you couldn't change region as much as you wanted so that may not be a good solution.

I don't know if the hardware can completely block access to the disc or whatever the subject not to be discussed on Steam solves it.
when you play back dvds in windows, the region code for that disc is set in the optical drive, not windows. You can change said region code 5 times after which the last code to be set will become permanent.

As above, there are ways around it, but I'm not risking posting it here.

To answer your question, there is no legal way to make a pc "region free".

I feel like either VLC plays it or it doesn't regardless.
