Computer Completely Bricks When Wi-Fi Card is Installed
So I have a very weird problem. I built up my first new computer yesterday, and everything worked fine. I decided to insert my Wi-Fi card ( with the power turned off, though ) and realised I ordered it for the wrong slot.

So I looked up if it's okay to put a PCIE x1 cards into a PCIE1 x16 slot and apparently it is. But my computer completely bricks when I put it in, with no power reaching anywhere.

My mobo has LEDs that come on when plugged in, and those weren't even coming on. It works when I unplug the card.

Tldr: my Wi-Fi card causes my computer to have no power, help.

Just to clarify, my psu is 620W, and none of my components should be draining all the power.

Oh sorry, didn't realise I didn't answer that. The card is generally bigger than the slot. The big pin is bigger than the biggest part of the slot, and vice versa for the smaller part. There are two slots, and they are both too small.

Where did you buy this card? It sounds to me like you bought a knock off from some cheap company and the card is just defectively made. Any card that is made for PCI-E x1 should fit into your motherboard.

If you tried to place it into the PCI-E x16 two different ways, you shouldn't do that. It should only be placed in there one way. I don't think you've damaged anything at this point, but don't keep trying.

I bought it off Amazon, from Intel. Though I have seen sellers on Amazon claiming they are Microsoft, but are selling cheap Windows keys, so its likely this wasn't a legitimate seller.

It did fit into the slot two different ways, but I didn't force it in to achieve this. At this point I think I did just get a dodgy card.
When you view places like Amazon
"by Intel" is just a product listing by brand is all that is, nothing more.
This is not the seller.

For Desktop PCIE, your card should look similar to:
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/tTdqqs/gigabyte-wireless-network-card-gcwb867di

DO NOT buy ones like the one shown below for Desktops:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IOS19E6
This is for Laptops. Yes it can work in a Desktop, via adapter card.
DO NOT plug Mini-PCIE into a Desktop's PCIE Slot

Laptops use Mini-PCIE and already have an Antenna array onboard ready to connect to such cards. Desktops need "PCIE WiFi Card w/ Antenna"

That Gigabyte one I linked above is great bang for buck and features Intel Chipset based 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and BlueTooth 4.0

Thanks for the info man, I'm gonna head into a computer store over the next few days to look for one of these cards, just so I can see by eye if it's a right fit, but if it comes with an adapter like the one you listed that will be fantastic.
Look at what? I just linked it.

Now did you buy the Mini-PCIE type?

Can you look on the box; what is the model of it?

Just return it and get the right kind. Amazon has easy returns & refunds.
