My GPU's DVI port died, should I be worried?
Hi, my MSI GAMINGX RX 470's DVI-I port just died. I'm now using an HDMI to DVI-I cable for now since my monitor doesn't have HDMI port only DVI-I and VGA. Should I be worried that the whole gpu as one is near its death? Should I prepare then? I recently posted a problem that led to this conclusion. Thanks!

if the monitor only has dvi and vga it may be time for a new monitor

Just had a storm Friday in Florida and power surge killed my sister computer power supply motherboard so I say no you have nothing to worry about.

yeah - makes no sense to be worried. It fails when it fails. And just ebcause parts break, doesnt mean that the rest will rbeak too. Quite common that ports fail.

It’s actually not common at all to have that port fail from a power surge as DVI is actually grounded. The OP should be fine, regardless, to use other ports.

The cause of the failure is likely because the male connector was forced into the female connector in the wrong direction. This can bend and break pins.

it is common. In about 1/3 of older GPU's a port or 2 failed (that I'm aware off). Its not because of a pwoer surge, they just fail as everythign fails at a certain time.
Its just normal wear and tear.
And being grounded doesnt mean that a power surge cant kill stuff. Otherwise we would had such problems at all that we need stuff like an UPS as example.
