Decent headphones without mic on a 3.5mm jack
Any suggestions for this? Budget of around £50 and hard wearing as I tend to break stuff.

Cheers all

Never heard of a 9mm jack, the usual sizes are 3.5mm and 6.34mm aka 1⁄4 inch jack.

I meant the 3.5mm jack sorry should have checked before I posted. :cozyspaceengineersc:

Am I ever going to get decent sound on that or is the best way with USB for power?

Headset = headphones with mic
Headphones = no mic

So you're looking for headphones with 3.5mm jack.

Before anyone can recommend any you may consider a Budget would be helpful. Also @decent' is subjective. What I deem decent you may not and vice versus.

Ah right, well it needs to be hard wearing as I have a habit of sitting on them and breaking them.

A budget of up to £50 I hope will get me something decent.

Headset and headphones makes sense. :headcrab:

If you have suggestions for USB non mic headphones with surround sound and all that jazz i could be interested in that too. I could possibly stretch beyond £50 but I break stuff regularly so I dont like the idea of blowing too much dosh on it.

plenty of good choices, and at that budget will sound MUCH better than any headset...

Pick a headphone:

ATH-M20x[www.amazon.co.uk] , very good closed back choice

Samson SR850[www.amazon.co.uk] - very good semi-open back choice

and a mic like this

generic lapel mic[www.amazon.co.uk]

Good to go. I do agree, some motherboards (notable budget ones) do have noise in the analog mic jack so a USB sound card fixes that up quick. Personally I am using a Samson SR850, a Zalman ZM-Mic1 and a Sound Blaster Play!3.

Sound Blaster Play!3[www.amazon.co.uk]

usb and surround sound headsets/phones are just trash you get much better quality for the same price if you get a stereo headphone..
dont buy usb and/or surround sound headset/phone

^ fully agree just get a USB sound card like the Play!3, much better solution than a built-in sound card...

The last set i had were some plantronics and the cable split and plastic weakened at a particular point meaning one side didnt sit flush on my ear.

prime x370 pro.. (budget motherboard for you? just interessting) and i cant compare the sound with my soundcard...its not just noice...its the whole sound which is so different and dont get the same quality and the options inside the realtek driver are just horrible..

Those samson ones look good, I assume thats all metal frame?

The AT ones look more comfy though and closed back is good. I can see myself breaking those though.

Agree realtek is pretty bottom barrel, just something to use when you have nothing else lol

...back OT, so many ways to get v-surround in games...

- in the game itself, "headphone" or similar option in the audio output options
- Windows 10 "sonic" spatial sound
- realtek "virtual" checkbox in the output / 2-channel speaker option
- 3rd party software like Razer surround

They are all similar, I do prefer the SBX surround on the Sound Blaster cards so can adjust to your liking

the construction is very basic but yes, the band is metal and very durable, the cans are the usual plastic. Key is there is no weak point like the plastic hinge that is common on all the cheap headsets, breaks and you are left with one ear hanging off then you have to glue it and force non-adjustable lol

Yeah that's what happened to my last ones. Pretty sure all of this stuff is designed to break after a certain number of hours with built in obsolescence. Cracked along an obvious weak point. The cable seemed to crack and split where it commonly bent too.
