Decent headphones without mic on a 3.5mm jack
Any suggestions for this? Budget of around £50 and hard wearing as I tend to break stuff.

Cheers all

If you keep sitting on them, maybe try ear buds. I've been using bose ear buds for a while and my only complaint is that they're so comfortable I forget I'm wearing them and try to stand up (also, not meant for PC use do the cord could be longer). They last me about 4-5 years a set so far before the cord sheathing gets brittle.

The sound quality is great too. Despite the tiny speaker they don't struggle with low end response or volume.

You'll learn not to stand up while wearing them after the first couple of times you almost face desk :D

simply build a holder (e.g. from a hanger or something simple) for the headphones and mount it on the side of the table

yea if you forget it you can destroy the cord or the jack connection...i cant recommend this...maybe its good for you but not for anyone
anyway if you compare bose in-ears with bose on-ears (because same manufacture) you will notice that you have better quality with the on-ears (but the in-ears from bose are good too yea)

I have some basic earbuds as a fall back device that im using right now, same problem, cord is too short. also would like a more fuller sound and to look after my ears. The ones I have are loose ones that just sit in the cup of my ear, I have another set that have the rubber bung that pokes right in for better sound but i find it bugs the inside of my ear canal.

Yeah tried ways of placing headset in a place where I wont damage it, always forget it once and sit on it.

Sit on my glasses a lot too. I think im too old to learn otherwise. :cozyspaceengineersc:

just create a holder and put it at your desk you will use it because it looks ugly if the headphone not on the place ;D (i mean you can test it anyway you wont lose anything because this :D )

Ill break them somehow, literally nothing lasts with me.

Hairs in the ears start getting in the way of things, wish I could break those, why don't our fingers fit inside our ears how annoying is that?
Yes, I have one recommendation. They're actually $60, but they're great for the price. You should look into the Status Audios [www.amazon.com], they're decent studio monitoring headphones.

Closed, open? On ear, around ear? Do you wear glasses?
Rich-UK (Bloqueado) 20 ABR 2019 a las 10:43
I prefer closed, yeah I wear glasses.

The status audios have an interesting cable system on them but they are on the higher end of my budget.

For closed back and around the ear models in your price range, I'd look at the Audio-Technica ATH-M30 X. If you can manage a higher price, the the M40 X and M50 X would both be steps up. An alternative here would be the Sennheiser HD 400S.

So many choices with decent budget cans - check out the Superlux HD681EVO...

the ATH M30 X has a strange looking hinge system on it I guess thats to fold them up and put them away. Not too keen on that after looking at the pictures. Thats exactly the kind of thing I will break lol. The ATH M20X doesnt seem to have the hinge.

On the superlux HD681EVO would that connector to extend the cable add any noise? Sorry if this is a silly question I am not really up to speed on my audio gear. Really just want something simple and rugged and does the job well without any fancy design to sell it to me.

Thanks for the help with this guys certainly giving me some options to check out. Im glad that I am on the right path by staying away from USB, and going with the 3.5mm I thought maybe I was just being an old person and hanging on to old technology but it seems like that is the way.

Interested to see someone suggest a lapel mic too, which I could get if I do choose to use a microphone. It seems others are thinking likewise as I am and choosing to have the option of seperated headphones and mic.

This thread has been reassuring, and that my budget will actually get me some okay gear.

Any more suggestions is good I can possibly go up to £60 on budget if I have to and if you have other suggestions.

Actually the HD 681 Evo is a semi-open back and thought that was a closed-back, so that was my bad... On vacation so maybe I can blame my phone for that one :)

To answer your Q the connector uses an extension-type cable so as long as the extension makes good contact, should not be any noise at all but it is something that can wear out over time - and if it does, a new extension cable is a relatively cheap fix.

For a *real* closed back budget choice, I found the AGK K52[www.amazon.co.uk] for £35 (down from £50, a very good deal on sale)

clip / lapel mics

Gyvazla 3.5mm Lavalier Lapel Omnidirectional Condenser Microphone[www.amazon.co.uk] £10

Lapel / Lavalier Omnidirectional Condenser Clip Microphone[www.amazon.co.uk] £9 (I think it's the same one as above for one less quid )

Looking at those AGK K52 they have a self adjusting headband, is that elastic? Watching a review on youtube, they look very lightweight. Just wondering if that elastic has longevity to it, if they are like my underpants they will probably fall off after while of use. :2018bestaward:

They seem to be amazons choice, and at a cheap price too. It has them listed at £27.20p

Definitely interested in those.

The ATH-M20x and Samson SR850 are also amazon choice, at £39

They seem to have a bigger range though. 10hz - 30khz. They are open back though.

The AGK K52 is 18hz - 20khz. Like the simpicity of those, the pads look comfy too. Bit worried that it will be a case of buy cheap, buy twice.

Superlux HD681. They sound amazing for the price.
Mivo 21 ABR 2019 a las 7:30
I much prefer open back headphones. The sound is more airy and, well, open, and it's also much nicer in the summer or in hot rooms. They still go around your ears. The only downside is that they leak sound, so if you live with people or work in a shared office, you may minimally disturb others. Unfortunately, there is much less choice, and so most of my headphones are closed.

There is still the glasses thing, too. I have found that most over-ear headphones aren't very comfortable for me. There are some exceptions, like the Sennheiser Game One (headset, based on the HD580), which by the way is the best headset I ever had and probably the nicest all-around headphones that I have tried and that are still made as well, but most are tight and clamp-y.

My causal cans that I use with my laptop when watching educational videos/courses is the Ultrasone HFi-15G. It does not interfere with glasses at all and I can wear it all day every day. It looks more simplistic and cheap than it is, but the sound is great for the price. I bought a second pair recently to use with my tablet.

The Audio Technica M50X is what I use for mixing because it's they are neutral and don't color the sound. I have had those for a few years now and they hold up well overall. I had a few costly Ultrasone headphones (in the €500 range) that I didn't get on with. I didn't like the sound or the clampiness and ended up returning them.

Oh, and I'd stay away from headphones and headsets made by gaming accessory makers, like Razer and Corsair. These are extremely hit and miss, in my experience. I could have saved money and hassle if I had gone straight for the Sennheiser Game One.
