Cannot find internet , "no connections are available".
I just installed Windows 7 with an OEM Windows7 HP SP1 installation disc. The Windows 7 OS I had installed on that computer before was a upgrade from Vista installation disc.

I had this computer on the internet with Wi-fi. After I ran the installation I tried to connect to the internet with the same wi-fi connection as before, it is the same connection that my new Windows 10 computer is connected to.

I am completely unable to get this computer to find a internet connection. In control panel when I try to setup an internet connection I continually get "no connections are available" When i select that little icon on the bottom right of your desktop that tells you whether you are connected and what connections are available once again I get that message.

If someone could tell me how to fix this or maybe some tests I could run to hopefully find and fix the problem I would be very grateful.

You should install WiFi driver.
Connect that computer to internet via Ethernet cable, or via USB tethering from your phone.
Download the correct driver manually or use program like Driver Booster to automatically install correct drivers.

use another pc to download the correct mobo/chipset/gpu/usb/lan/wifi drivers (from mfg site) and copy them to a usb stick to install on the laptop
then get the latest ones from amd/intel/nvidia/realtek ect..
It is not a laptop but a desktop I am referring to.

If I used my Win 10 computer to download a program like Drive Booster and transferred that to my Win 7 computer via usb stick and ran that would that work, never mind; as that computer does not have access to the internet it could not download drivers.

If it is a driver problem then i think I would have to download the drivers on my Win 10 computer and then load them on my Win 7 computer via usb stick.

Due to the setup I have with internet connection in my apartment building connecting my Win 7 computer physically to an internet source is not possible. That being the case how do I know what drivers I have to download to install on my Win 7 computer?

If I hooked my Win 7 computer to a router could I then connect the router to the same wifi connection my Win 10 computer is using? I do have an old router/modem I am not using.
if you can get the model and revision of your motherboard we could probly find a driver pack on the manufacturers website. if your wifi is external we would need to know the model of that as well to find the appropriate driver.

then it's just a matter of downloading those drivers to a usb on an internet capable pc and installing them on the one that isn't
This is what I have as a motherboard.

Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
Southbridge AMDSB700
chipset AMD 780G
LPCIO IT728
BIOS Award Software Int.
Version FA 4/23/2013 UEFI
CPU AMD FX 8320 8 core

I had all this written down, I do not know whether the revision is there, hell, I do not even know what the revision is.

I do not know what kind of driver package to look for, I imagine I should go to the Gigabyte website. If you could help me with what kind of driver or drivers I should look for I would greatly appreciate it.

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-78LMT-USB3-rev-41#support-dl-driver - drivers

you can cycle through the revisions next to the motherboard model

I find it odd that drivers weren't installed. Windows is pretty good about creating drivers after startup and especially an upgrade. But I'll ask some questions in hopes of a solution.

I know this is a stupid question to ask but it's a step in helping: Did you right-click the bottom right and try troubleshooting? A lot of times, that fixes it. \

Next question: You made sure that your wifi adapter is on?
Windows can only install drivers if there is an internet connection to download them with. Also a lot of Windows troubleshooting is online.

Thank you for the links Dave I will let you know how this works, might be a day or so.

I downloaded the LAN driver as that looked like the one that would be applicable to my problem, also the diagnostic tool.

If there is no internet connection then windows will still create a drive if it is part of the system hardware. Going online is only giving you the most updated and correct drive for the device.

As for troubleshooting, there is no online either. Online troubleshooting is usually the alternative which never works anyway. The PC will go through the hardware and check the configurations for any faults. Because of the update you had, I'm almost willing to bet that your wifi adapter just needs a reset.

The Windows installer comes with a large library of drivers and a set of basic drivers for various hardware. It doesn't "create a driver", but picks the closest match. Wifi hardware however rarely works with basic drivers.

That motherboard does not appear to have Wifi so you're looking for drivers for an expansion card or a USB Wifi stick. The LAN driver you downloaded is for the Ethernet connection.
I have no idea what the hell happened. When I started my computer it bugged and told me to restart with the installation disc in and use the repair function. I did this and it started and I went to control panel and everything was great, the internet connections were there, I connected and had internet. I then noticed that I was in my HDD drive and not my SSD startup drive that I had installed that OEM disc to.

Upshot is, after hours of messing around there is no way I can get an internet connection if I am in my SSD disc, only if I am in my HDD disc.

Right now I have my SSD disc unplugged and am downloading updates for my HDD disc. I am going to create a system recovery disc for Win7 HP SP1 and plug in my SSD drive and see if that works.

I believe my problem is my BIOS which is UEFI because I bought this computer with an Win 8.1 OS and switched to Win 7. When I start up my computer I get a choice of "Windows" or Windows Home Premium" to open from. I start with "Windows Home Premium" as it loads to my HDD disc and I do not know what the other does, probably get an error message telling me to restart with the installation disc and use it's repair function.

Anyway, thanks for your replies, if you have any suggestions as to what is happening or what I can do to fix it besides what I am going to try, let me know. At least I know it is not the mother board or I still would get no internet connection.

Edit- My choices are "Windows 7" or "Windows 7 {Recovered]." Picking the second option loads my HDD disc.

It almost sounds like you have two drives with their own startup. But I am a little confused by you saying that you noticed you were in this or that drive. Do you operate each drive separately? Do you not have them partitioned to work together?

But really, you should only have one drive that works as the boot and windows has it's own reserve drive in that drive. When a drive as been properly installed of windows, the installation disk needs to not be the first to boot. In your bios, how do you have your launc
h order?
I have two drives, a 500gb SSD drive and a 1tr HDD drive. Before I reinstalled Win 7 with that OEM disc on my SSD drive the SSD drive was my boot drive and the HDD drive my storage drive. I was extremely surprised when after I had rebooted and used the repair function on the install disc to discover I was in the HDD drive.

Before the SSD drive was my C: drive and the HDD drive was my E: drive, now that was reversed. I do not have a clue as to how that happened except it must have been due to some choices I made when trying to boot my computer and being unable to. Which brings us back to using the repair function on the OEM installation disc.

When I had the HDD drive unplugged and just the SSD drive installed there was a problem booting it, when when I finally got it booted and running once again I could get no internet connection. I believe that the installation of the OEM disc on my SSD drive corrupted that OS and is the cause of my problems. I am going to download a Win 7 system recovery disc and try to run that with just my SSD drive plugged in.

I know I sound confused, saying I think my problem is the UEFI Bios and then saying I think it is the OEM installation. The thing is I am confused as to what the hell is happening. I would like to try wiping my SSD drive and then installing Win 7 on a clean drive but I do not know how to wipe that SSD drive. I tried to format it but could not perform that operation, then I tried Dban but could not run the disc.

I suppose I will run the install again with the OEM Win 7 HP SP1 installation disc with the HDD drive unplugged and if I still have no network connection run the system restore disc. If that does not work I have no idea what to do to save that SSD drive.
