Fan setup in CoolerMaster MasterBox NR600
I'm looking at getting a new case to replace my ancient Rosewill Thor full ATX tower, and I've been looking at the NR600. GN did some thermal testing with the case bone stock and it had some of the best thermals for the money on their charts.

I would be filling all available fan spots using x3 120mm intake fans on the front, x2 140mm fans on the top, and a 120mm rear exhaust fan.

My question is about the orientation of the top fans. Would they be better suited as intake or exhaust in this particular case? Which I guess is a question of positive vs negative pressure.

The top fans should be exhaust, this will promote negative air-pressure in your system which is more efficient than positive or optimum air-pressure, at least for most cases including CM's NR600

Unless you use a radiator on top - you shouldn't use the top fan slots.

Exhaust. You may aswell go with the natural flow of hot air which is upwards rather than fighting it.

I considered this. But I saw a drop in temperature when adding a fan on top

I ended up putting the top 140mm fans as exhaust. And if I'm being honest, the overall temps and airflow in this case is pretty amazing considering the price (assuming you don't have to pay more for fans to fill up every spot).

As just kind of a dumb pseudo scientific experiment, I tried putting the mesh that comes with the case on top - not to filter the exhaust because that's obviously dumb, but to stifle airflow and see if those top fans are actually helping at all. And sure enough my temps would rise by a few degrees when I did.

I did end up cutting a small hole in the back of the case to feed my RGB cable through so I could keep my desk lighting strips synced to the motherboard. The PSU area is VERY tight if you have a bigger PSU. My 1000w would simply not fit but luckily I had a 750w lying around. And I didn't have enough fan headers on my motherboard to power the 3 front fans along with everything else so I had to use a molex adapter for all of them. I have since bought a splitter but have yet to actually put it in. The front fans are just a cheapo 4 pack so they aren't great but they arent loud either.

That's great. Funny thing is I don't own this case but am confused between three cases, CM MasterBox NR600, CM MasterBox MB511 RGB, and NZXT H500. I am slightly inclining towards
NR600 after deep-diving about it. I so much like the H500 but worried about the GPU temps in it.

I really love the look of the NZXT H500, however that front panel just screams to me about choking air flow. I guess it's got an opening around the edges but there's so much front facing surface area that could be intake. I really love the clean look of it though. Judging from looks alone, it looks like the MB511 would perform very similarly to the NR600 in thermals. The NR600 also has enough room to fit my giant CPU cooler, Noctua NH-D15 (with about 1mm to spare, but it fits)
