Do I need to use DDU?
I ordered a 1080ti and that's arriving soon. Right now I have a 1060 so do I need to use DDU or can I just swap them and install new drivers from the Nvidia website?

Just install new drivers w/ a clean install on the nvidia driver install menu
same gen gpu will use the same driver

Not the same thing as using DDU, that only defaults the NVIDIA CP settings, it doesnt actually do a "CLEAN" install.

Yes nvidia clean install just wipes all nvidia control panel settings, nothing more. If it worked with regards to driver cleanup, then you wouldn't have a driver rollback option in device manager for said gpu after such install option was used.

Just use ddu every time change gpu or change gpu driver, it helps avoid any possible issues with change of gpu driver or gpu driver family. It's also a fast step to use so idk why folks wouldn't do it. Upgrading driver after driver after driver is how most folks run into problems with gpu driver down the road. As there is no reason to have your OS hold onto all that old driver crap over time as you upgrade it's version over time.

Also be sure that Windows Updates doesn't touch your gpu driver, which it will if u leave pc connected while uninstall in gpu driver and rebooting

Do you need to? No. Should you? Yes. Unless you're going from AMD to Nvidia you don't need to worry about using DDU. But it can help a lot when needing to reinstall new GPU drivers to avoid errors/issues that can occur.
I ordered 1660 super and upgrading from GT 1030 do i need to use DDU?
1600 is really a 2000 with rt shortcuts disabled
so its a different gen from the 1000

the same driver may work
but best to use ddu to wipe and then install the latest

The same driver DOES work however when you switch from a GTX to an RTX it is then best to either use the DDU method or at least go into Programs and Featires and uninstall everything Nvidia and then shutdown, switch gpus, power on and install the latest driver suite fresh again.

Also if you used the nVidia shader cache option enabled then I'd suggest using the DDU method so all of thatgets wiped out.

If after your new gpu and driver clean install; you have issues launching a game, go to the folder where the game stores its configuration files (usually within the user Documents or AppData structures) and delete the files for that. They will get recreated upon next game launch. Then just configure the game again for screen res, refresh rate and whatever graphics settings you want to apply.
