Do graphics card have any effect on speed?

Hello, i have recently purchased an Intel Core i9-9900K (which i probably get at wednesday). Because i had to change my crappy AMD FX 6300 six core.

My friends say my computer wont go that much faster without a proper graphics card. IDK if this is true, so i hoped you guys would help me out.

I currently have a GTX 670, but im thinking about getting a Radeon RX 580 8GB if my friends are correct.

Edit: i got the CPU for about 210$ And its not returnable

I would return the 9900k, and get a Ryzen 5 3600 and a B450M motherboard instead then spend more on the GPU, you'll get more performance that way. Yes, the GPU has a big impact in performance.

No, your graphics card is not going to affect your PC's speed anyhow. Only thing it is going to affect is how much FPS will you get in your games. GTX 670 is a pretty old card, RX 580 is a modern good one, but honestly - if you can afford 9900k, you most likely can do much better than RX 580. What is your budget?

Depends what you mean by speed, but yes, as poster above said, gpu has a huge impact on gaming performance.

Edit: including the settings you can use while keeping the same or better fps etc.

What guys above suggested is a pretty good idea tbh. You don't actually need 9900k for gaming. Although if you do want to keep it - RX 580 will do, but if you can - save up for at least RX 5700 or RTX 2060S. It mostly depends on how high do you want to go with your settings and resolution.

The whole reason i tought of buying a new Processor was because of the ridiculous time i had to wait to change turn on total war Warhammer so i dont think fps is that important even tho i play shootergames sometimes

A new CPU isn't going to help with that, buying an SSD will. I would still highly recommend returning the 9900K.

The 9600k, 9700k and 9900k have nearly identical thread speeds, so you could swap the 9900k for a 9700k or 9600k and get near equal turn times. For Civ6 the turns take 30,31,34 secs respectively. The ryzen 3600 takes 36 secs. So look for WH turn time comparison info on the web.

I don't play any of the warhammer TW games but have a few thousand hours in Empire with modded super-sized units. The better the cpu also helps avoid lag moving around in battles. A 9700k would be my choice but if budget is an issue either (1) try the 670 and if it works OK save up for something better or (2) get the 9600k or 3600 and whatever good video card you can afford.

Keep an eye on the black friday deals for a new gpu.

Who cares. It doesn't justify going 9900K and 580 that's about as ridiculous as you could get with that being your budget.

Going 3600 or 3700X and a better gpu makes much more sense.

Keep the 9900K IF you already have or own the mobo to go with it, but IF you're getting everything brand new (CPU, Mobo, RAM, etc), then return that 9900K and get a 3600/3600X/3700X + B450 mobo (like MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX) and other relevant parts. With the money saved from going from the 9900K to the 3600 (for example), you can move up on your GPU to, say, an RTX2060 Super or RX 5700 (or higher, depending on cost).

I have a 3900X + X570 mobo + 32GB RAM, with the new AGESA 1.0.0.4 BIOS, 3-4 of the cores boost to 4.6Ghz or higher, but my gaming experience is being held back by my using my PowerColor RX VEGA64 Red Devil. Yes, it's a good card, but it's definitely holding back gaming performance on my rig, I have to run at High (not Extreme, not Ultra) setting to get playable framerate and the card struggles with games like GoW5, Metro Exodus, Borderlands 3, CoD MW at 3440x1440. I can get an RTX2080 Ti to resolve my framerate issue, but I'm waiting for big NAVI 23 (I'm something of an AMD GPU fanboy) or even nVidia's Ampere (only if nVidia doesn't go ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with pricing).
