Computer having fps issues after playing unplugged
So, my computer isnt a top of the line pc, but it has always been able to consistently run games above 30 fps. Yesterday i was playing assassins creed unity with my laptop unplugged in the livingroom, and once again, it was running fine. I got up and walked away, and when i came back my pc had already gone into sleep mode, not weird. I didnt have a chance to use it again till the following day, at which time i noticed all my games not running quite as good as they used to. They ran at under 30 fps, closer to 20, and it doesnt matter what graphics settings im on. In dark souls 3 for example, the framerate stays at 20-30 fps if its on high, medium, low, it doesnt make a difference.

Another thing to know about this pc is, it had issues before this, the fix to which was to remove the performance driver (im not good with this stuff, i couldnt tell you what driver it was as i had somebody else fix it for me), which is why it now runs games at above 30 fps, not at 60 like it used to.

(also, its a Lenovo Legion Y520)

Any ideas? thanks

most laptops go to a power save mode when on battery
change windows power settings to 100% when unplugged
and check bios settings for plugged/unplugged

What are the temps of the laptops CPU / GPU?

It could be you're thermal throttling.

i dont usually, that was the first time in a very long time, and i havent since, its having the problem plugged in and im not sure why it still is

Most laptops with NVIDIA GPUs use this thing called NVIDIA Optimus, which is basically a power-saving plan. When your laptop is on Battery, it uses very little of the GPU to conserve power, but as soon as you plug it, you go back to using 100% of your GPU on games.

CPU and GPU temperatures.
If you install MSI afterburner, or HWmonitor, they should monitor the GPU can CPU temperatures, run a game for 5 mins, and then come and tell us what they are.

And, thermal throttling is where the laptops parts get hot, so it reduces the speed of them, drawing less power, which reduces the temperatures.

The laptop model you said you have has a GTX 1050ti, an Nvidia GPU.

i messed with my settings a bit, got it running dark souls 3 at 25-30 frames so, at the very least, its good enough to play at
JIO_GRAZE May 27, 2019 @ 6:49pm
(once again, i only mentioned it ran badly after using it unplugged in case that was the cause of it, i do not use it unplugged 99.9% of the time)
