Ripped off SMD Capacitor R9 270x
I just ripped off recently by accident that tiny capacitor C1449 located somewhere around the middle of graphics card in a row of about 5 other capacitors, so i was wondering how and why is my gpu still working like nothing happened? Could anyone find out what is it used for? I heard it makes voltage smoother, but does that mean if i undervolt to 0.950 that i don't even need that capacitor? Also is it specifically for gpu, memory, fans? How am i supposed to find out that? Is there anyone who managed to use gpu without SMD capacitor for years without problems? Ty in advance.

Hard to say for sure. Make sure to test the gpu under a full load based benchmark for extended period and see how it does. It might be a cap used for one of the video outputs, did you test all of those?
I have a little experience on the matter, where my old (and very precious) 8600gt got a few stuffed capacitors.
Something like this:

Even with a bunch of those, the card still worked for a while, eventually giving a BSOD, then it died, from nowhere, after good 6~7 years of gaming..

My brother in law wanted this old card for his son, so i tried to fix the card by chaging those capacitors (solid ones) to regular ones, and worked, looking like a Frankenstein.

Guess what, this card still works UNTIL TODAY!!!!!

Wow, that is amazing Blaquicat, and my capacitor is the smallest one, about 1mm long literally, it's so tiny (i saved it in case that i will have to ask someone to repair it for me) btw, i just checked the other dvi output, both dvi outputs work, sadly don't have hdmi monitor to check if works, but basically if my gpu is underclocked and undervolted then capacitors are not much important here?
Just leave the clock and voltage alone unless it's causing crashing problems
Well i bought this card from a miner, it was already underclocked, but memory wasn't so i had artifacts (obviously someone mined the memory, ethereum i guess) and i downclocked memory from 1400 to 1000 for artifacts to disappear, now i start thinking that the other smd which seems a bit weird and out of place, was actually also ripped off but repaired incorrectly making memory voltage unstable, if that is the case, then there is huge chance that this one is also for memory because it's near that one... and i locked fans at 50% because i hate noise and i don't like high temperatures on gpus...

Could be another component..

Those are capacitors.
Blaquicat, just 10mins ago i was reading about some guy who gave to a brother 8600gt and then brother gave him back 8600gt with blown capacitors and he wanted to play left 4 dead with that gpu that had blown capacitors, and then i see your favorite game is l4d2, WHAT ARE THE CHANCES? Was that you???
Gpu clocks remain at stock as the specs suggest. If a user change them via software that doesn't matter, they go back to defaults when put in a different machine, etc or when being oced by the software at os startup, such as msi afterburner for example
i edited bios, reduced wattage from 180 to 65, voltage from 1.2 to 0.95 and core from about 1050 to 820 and memory from 1400 to 1000 :)

You might as well be running an RX 240 or 250 then.
you mean r7 250? well you aren't right with that, this gpu has alot of transistors and shaders, it's not all in clocks... also it has higher cache memory than r7 250. i am still able to play gta 5 almost all on max in 1080p and it's still faster card than gtx 750ti
