Linux and XFCE

Hello, I've been wanting to switch to Linux on my PC for a while. I want the XFCE desktop, and originally tried Manjaro however the OS would freeze for seemingly no reason, and I couldn't find out how to fix it, nor could I make an attempt to figure out what the problem was, since my PC would freeze before I could open a terminal and copy my system specs.

So assuming I don't find a solution to getting Manjaro to work, what would anyone give as a suggestion? I would use Xubuntu but it's not modern by any means and don't want to spend too much time customizing.

Apologies if this post seems all over the place, but one last thing is I would use Peppermint OS as that is one of my favorite distros, but it seems that if I want to update to the newest version (say Peppermint 9 to 10) then I have to completely reinstall the OS, I can't use the terminal to go to the latest version. If I am wrong about this, please correct me.

Xubuntu 19.04 runs the v5 kernel, that’s pretty modern to me lol - what I would use if running steam... what customizations do you mean?

Linux is more than just the kernel and Ubuntu is known to use old but well patched components.

To me, Xubuntu looks like Windows '95-2000.

You're right, but I don't like Xubuntu's front end. Manjaro looks more appealing to me personally, but seeing as I can't run that on my PC, I am searching for other XFCE distros.

Have not tried 19.04 yet but the older xubuntu versions you can use the default Xubuntu style or the XFCE style by selecting it in the pull-down menu to select your DE (near the top right at the login screen), not sure they took that out or not...

XFCE can be themed and tweaked. You can make it look like whatever you want.

I know what you mean by Xubuntu. I wanted a Linux distro for an old netbook I have but couldn't stick with Xubuntu. I settled with Ubuntu Budgie in the end.

I've tried so many distros over the years and keep reverting back to the Ubuntu based ones. They seem to be hassle free! Mint in particular.

I love Linux Mint, I used it on my laptop for a while, however my WiFi adapter (Netgear A6210) is not recognized on any Linux distro based on the Ubuntu LTS release.
